Stress and fetal movement

I did a search and couldn't find something similar to this so asking for advice. So 2 days ago I had to rush my cat of 16 years to the emergency vet and unfortunately had to put her to sleep. DH and I had her since she was about 8weeks old and she was one of my babies ( FTM but have 3 other dogs and another cat and they are my kids). I was devastated and have been really stressed out bc of it. That happened Monday evening. Tuesday and today I haven't felt LO move. I felt him on a regular basis from about 25 weeks on and I am 28 weeks tomorrow. Like clockwork I feel him after I eat and from about 9:30 pm on for a couple of hours. Can stress cause less fetal movement? I just want to know if it can be normal with the stress that I have been under. I did not want to call the dr if it normal for that to happen. Thanks in advance.

Try drinking some ice cold water and eating something sugary and see if he stirs a bit. If not I'd call your dr and just get checked out but it's normal for them to have calm days. Stress had the opposite effect on my daughter I was crying and she started moving really aggressively. Sorry about your fur baby I love my dog like that too.

  • Lol I covered the cold and sweet with ice cream:). I'm gonna give that some time to kick in. Hopefully I feel something soon
  • around this time fetal movement decreases a bit usually. I've had a decrease in my movement
  • For me, when I'm stressed I'm so focused on whatever has me stressed that I don't notice LO's movements. Then when I think I haven't felt him for awhile he's asleep. I would suggest to do your best to rest and relax. If the lack of movement is scaring you then call your Dr to get their opinion.

I'm also very sorry to hear about your furbaby. My dog is my first child so I empathize. Know your cat had a wonderfully long life filled with lots of love. Xx.
  • Sorry to hear about your cat. Hugs.

LO is probably just snuggled in. I notice when I'm stressed at work baby boy doesn't move nearly as much.. Their patterns can change at this time too.
  • I'm another vote in favor of call your doctor. I am so sorry about your cat. I had to put my cat to sleep about five years ago--- she was 21. I literally couldn't move for a week after, even writing this now, I'm tearing up. Thoughts and prayers for you and LO.
  • Call your doctor anytime you're worried. But I agree with pps that baby's patterns can change suddenly. Little one is not a robot and likely is currently "snuggled in" like @katherines2ndminime said. I really like that visual. O:-)
  • Movement does change throughout pregnancy and if you're busy and focused on other things you'll be less likely to notice small flutters. If you're really worried, call your doctor. I also suggest buying a fetal Doppler because it gives me such great peace of mind on those "slower" days when baby seems to be less active. Good luck mama and sorry to hear about your fur baby.

  • Sorry to hear about your fur baby I know how hard that is!
  • Thanks ladies:). So I did call my dr and they had me go in for monitoring. They were able to get his heartbeat and hear him move like crazy but I could not feel any of it. They said he is probably just settled in deeper than normal. He was also breech so maybe that had something to do with it? And of course today I felt him all day long. He makes me worry so much right now and he isn't even born yet I don't wanna imagine how I will be once he gets here lol. I will be a crazy mom!
  • My little guy has done this to me. Try Ice cold Coke. However, when worried always let your OB know. Never be afraid to be the " over nervous mom." You will always feel better doing so even if every thing is ok.
