Bad News

Why does bad things seem to happen at the worst possible. My SO lost his job this morning due to budget cuts and I'm already been on bed rest since the end of March so money has been tight. Now I'm so scared because we have a baby on the way and we can't afford for him to be out of a job right now and idk what to do.

Sorry end rant. Thanks for reading if you did.

  • I'm sorry about your DH's job, and I definitely understand.  I'm losing my job after the baby is born, and the timing is less than great.  Will your DH receive any sort of severance package?  Or be paid out for vacation/ holiday hours?

I don't think so because it was them trying to save money so idk
  • Oh man, that's terrible. My DH got laid off February of 2014 and was without a job for about 4 months. I used that super stressful time to learn some valuable life lessons and have a healthy dose of reality. Believe it or not, looking back on it now we both agree it was the best thing that could have happened to us. His getting laid off set off a series of events that has lead him at his favorite and most lucrative job. Just try to stay calm. And I agree with other PP's, look into unemployment and other benefits. Also, look for jobs together. It's a big hit to their masculine ego to lose a job so be sure you are there for him and you guys will get through it. Good luck

  • And while he's searching for jobs he could do extra little things. Like delivering phone books and stuff. Check out Craigslist and FB for things like that. It's not much but it may help until he finds something more permanent.

Never thought of that thank you, will let him know to check it out.
  • I'm so sorry to hear this, it's a very scary time for that to happen. I'm wishing you both the best and hopefully he is able to find something else soon! Agree with PP about finding something on the side or casual until something more permanent comes along! Best of luck!

I'm just a lurker from TTC (and TB went batty with links and ended up here) but I'm so sorry. I had to double check which board I was on, but since I'm here-- You have all the hugs and warm beverages. Cake. That sounds like such a rough thing to be going through while on bed rest. FX that your SO can find work ASAP. Hang in there!

  • I'm sorry this is happening to you right now.  I second a PP's suggestion that you guys apply immediately for public assistance.  WIC, Medicaid, Housing, SNAP (food stamps) and TANF (welfare).  Your DH should also apply today for unemployment.  Hopefully between all of those things coming through you will be able to get by until your hubby finds a new job.  I know for Medicaid, SNAP, WIC and TANF South Carolina expedites the approval process for pregnant women.  Good luck.  Positive thoughts your way.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

  • Sorry your going through this. Definitely look at government assistance thus us exactly what they are there for. Praying he finds a job soon.
  • I think that employers are required to offer cobra for health insurance, so if you can afford it, you could check and at least your health insurance can still be covered through the birth. Best of luck.
  • So sorry to hear this, creepy Internet hugs your way.
  • I'm so sorry you're dealing with this! Best of luck to you & your family. *hugs*

  • Thank you ladies for the support and the advice. We are putting together a plan and hopefully things will work out trying to stay positive
  • So sorry you're going through this!  Sending new job vibes your SO's way, and yeah like others have said, government assistance programs are there just for situations like this.  Don't be ashamed to use them; they're designed to keep your family fed & clothed & healthy while you look for income.
