Doctor's Appt RANT!

Yesterday I had my 38 week appointment, with the same ol' same ol. Measure, Heartbeat and cervical check. He told me I am now 3cm, still 90% thinned and at a +2 station. We joked about how I didn't know how I was gonna last much longer without my baby just falling out on his own with him being so low. After he said "Do you want an appointment for next week?" and in my head I was just like duh.. I'll be 39 weeks lol But I went ahead and said yes, but maybe I won't make it to it and laughed. He said alright, go ahead and get dressed and meet out in the hall.

I got dressed, and my SO was with me and we both were talking about how he asked if I wanted an appointment. I got out to the hallway to the doctor handing me a paper for an induction date for next Monday at 730! I was so confused, I said no no no, I don't want to be induced, not yet atleast. and He said oh, and looked annoyed, but really, he wasn't really clear.

I'm just so annoyed that he was annoyed with me! It isn't my fault that he wasn't clear and I just thought he meant a regular 39 week appointment!!

  • Geeze, I would be ticked! I mean, seriously!? X(

  • Thats crazy. If you are already dilated and effaced that much, why rush it? Chances are you'll go on your own. Thats nuts.

  • Yah I can certainly u seat and why u would be ticked off.
Why would he induce u at 39 weeks, that would normally be done at 41.
    Sorry Hun.
  • I was so confused!! I think it's just the normal anymore around here, that and c sections just kinda are done before a normal vaginal birth. I was just more mad that he was annoyed with me lol
  • That's just odd to me. Is he your normal doctor? I know my OB office had me book appointments until the 40 week mark months ago and the doc talked me through her plan to see me at 40 weeks if I make it and if so schedule an induction THEN for the 41 week mark.
  • Yeah, my office just schedules em when you are in there for each appt instead of a head of time. I have two different doctors I see, just depending on who's in. But neither have EVER talked to me about my birth plan or what I plan to do with baby, i.e. Breastfeeding and etc. when I told him no induction for the 26th, he asked if I wanted to schedule it for the 2nd because I'll be 40 weeks and I again said no!
  • So strange. Just stick to your guns, mama. They can be annoyed all they want but if you and baby are healthy it's YOUR decision. Do what feels right for YOU.
  • That's crazy - simply crazy.  This is why I switched from an OB to a midwife at 32 weeks.  I had some bad experiences with my OB also; he didn't seem to care about what kind of birth I wanted.  I am so happy I switched and now I will deliver at a birth center instead of a hospital.  No unnecessary medical interventions.  If any issues arise, I am across the street from the hospital.
  • We sadly don't have any of those where I live :( it's something I definitely wish we had!!
  • I agree with these ladies. Until week 41, if there is no medical reason to have a c-section ... Don't.
If it's pre-e, high BP, breach baby then that's another story. What we all need to remember is that are due dates are estimated, not fixed.
Maybe at week 40 you can suggest that your Dr do an ultrasound to ensure that everything is ok and you can safely go over.
  • My doctor was trying to induce me at 39 as well ! I said no
  • My doctor offered yesterday (38+5) to induce next week at 39, but I declined and said I wanted to go naturally, if possible.  He said he preferred it that way.  I was surprised he had even offered, but he said the hospital allows them to schedule inductions starting at 39 weeks.  Don't fall for the seduction of the induction!  :)  LOL  Anyway, he said that next week when I'll be 39+5 they will hook me up to the monitor just to make sure things are looking good, and then they would schedule an induction for close to 41 weeks (a little leeway on either side).

  • i about fell over when he handed me the paper lol and no one wants to see a big ol' pregnant lady rolling around trying to get back up. i stuck to my guns. like i said i'm already 3cm and 90% thinned out, i think my body is doing just fine and is gonna be able to do it on it's own without inducing so fingers crossed!!!
  • From looking at all these posts it looks like a lot were induced, either for health reason or for past due dates. Maybe we could do a poll to see how many went naturally, how many got induced, and how many had a scheduled CSection ? I would do it but I am a lurker from november 2015 :)

  • Yeah I would think that's too early to get induced. At my 39 week appointment on 10-5 I was 50% effaced and 2cm. I didn't make it to my next appointment a week later. My water broke at 520am on 10-12, 6 hours before my scheduled doctor appointment. Just shows you can progress super fast, or things can take time. Baby will come when they want to.
  • Yes!  Let nature take it's course!  You'll be fine :)
