Still getting bfn

We used the cbfm this month. It said I was peak around cd 20. About 12 days past that I had cramping, nausea, constipation and diarrhea, having to pee a lot, super tired. Now, nothing but mood swings, a dull feeling in my lower abdomen, and LOTS of cm-as in soak pantiliners and change them kind of soaked. I'm at cd 37 today. 17 DPO and late for my period by at least 4 days. Still getting bfn. My mom got bfn until she was two months along and had a blood test done. Is there any hope? Was this an anovulatory cycle and I'm just SUPER late (which NEVER happens!) or could I be pregnant? I felt pregnant (as much as I can relate to that as I've never been before) a few days ago. Not so much now.

Re: Still getting bfn

  • Call your doctor and get a blood test. Lots of things could cause those symptoms and simply obsession and stressing over it could make you late.

  • My mom got negatives from the dr even when she was pregnant, so I sympathize! It's hard to be sure and can be stressful when the test doesn't match up to what your feeling. (To be specific: Stress after ovulation can't make you late, but stressing prior to ovulation can extend your cycle.)

Did you track your bbt? LH is a good indicator but you can have an LH surge or sustained high LH without ovulation (common w PCOS) so in order to know if your cycle was annovulatory, we would need a bbt chart that did not show a clear biphasic pattern. Temping would also be a strong indicator of early pregnancy if you bbt stayed elevated for 16 days. My suggestion, get a blood test if you like or wait a week and try again. If AF arrives start tracking your BBT and LH next month.
  • I'm not going to sugar coat it or give you false hope OP, but unless you were tracking your temps with a BBT, there is no sure-fire way to confirm when you ovulated (or if you even ovulated at all). It's very likely that you ovulated later than you thought, which could most definitely be the reason AF is "late". If you're POAS and they're still negative at 17dpo, more than likely that means you're not pregnant. I would give it another week and see if AF shows up. If she still doesn't show and you're still getting negatives, I believe it's recommended to wait until CD60 before seeing your doctor. *Edited because words are hard this morning.
    ^^ All of this.

I had a few cycles where I thought I was definitely late, but it turns out I had just O'd much later than I thought. Cycles are unpredictable & can change at any time. I suggest temping...it is the only way to confirm ovulation, & I found that it kept me sane & more relaxed through my cycle.

    Good luck.

  • Since you're not tracking your BBT, test once a week or so until you hit CD60. At that point call your doctor and they can tell you what to do.

  • This is SO helpful!!! Thank you!! With Marquette NFP, temping is optional. Since I didn't know much about it, I haven't done it. As soon as I can, I will add that! Thanks!!!
  • I guess my question is now: if I had an lh surge and an estrogen surge, does that not show I ovulated? I'm kind of confused. Sorry. I'm definitely adding Bbt next time!
  • Using the Marquette monitor method or with a hpt?

Women can have multiple LH (and estrogen) surges in a given cycle, but still not ovulate. Frustrating for sure, but temping is the only way to confirm ovulation actually occurred.

If you want to read more about it, I'd highly suggest picking up a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It goes into detail about the science of tracking your cycles using BBT, CM, OPKs, and cervical position. It was a game changer for me.
  • I also say that you ovulated late. In fact if you're just now getting crazy CM I'd say you could be ovulating now as that is a good indicator of your body getting ready to O. HIO and definitely read TCOYF.

  • I have PCOS and my cycles are normally 60 days with multiple LH surges, none of which are strong enough to cause me to ovulate.

You may want to see your doctor. It'll help put your mind to rest and it's a good way to see what might be going with the fickle ovaries, or anything else that could be giving you this long cycle.

I've been having some very soaked panties lately and it's a normal pregnancy thing.

Have you at least seen a doctor for a blood test yet?

No, I've had multiple estrogen and LH surges per cycle (including a 50 day one). Try BBT next month if this isn't your month.
  • With people's moms getting bfns on hpts.... aren't the hpts today better than they were a generation ago? Does that really happen to people today with frers and such?
