Downward head and opening cervix??

How will I know if the baby's head is turned downward by now, and also what are the telltale symptoms of a cervix which is open/opening?

    Your doctor will tell you.

Yep. That's the only way to know.
  • A few ways to possibly tell baby's position:

If you feel something hard, press on it. If the whole baby moves, it's probably the butt. If just the part you press on moves, it's probably the head because the head can move independent of the rest of the body.

If you feel baby's hiccups low down, baby is probably head down. Hiccups up high- head up. Same with the heartbeat. If you (or you doctor) finds the heartbeat low down, baby is probably head down. Heartbeat up high- head up.

But as PPs said, only your doctor can tell you for sure.

  • Your doctor is the best source. I found out my an US tech @ 29w during a growth scan that my LO's head is so low in my pelvis she would not me flipping back over...and now at 34 weeks she hasn't.
My LO's movement was a big indicator too. Being kicked in the ribs by little feet felt completely different than movements in weeks 22-26 where everything was just all over and I could tell she could still flip about.
  • I knew her positioning well before my midwife checked my belly. I knew she was head down because I could feel what was either butt or knees up top, and the kicks were all up high on one side. i haven't felt hiccups though.  I also know when she flipped over during a gall bladder attack because i could no longer feel her butt up high, instead, the hard part was much narrower.

At my last appointment, I thought my baby was head up, because of where the hiccups were at, and they ended up being head down instead. It's really confusing to figure out on your own. Your doctor will usually know, though. :)
