July 2016 Moms

How can I (we) help you?

I'd like to extend an offer to answer anyone's "Is this normal" questions and "What to expect?" questions.  I'm not a doctor but this isn't my first time at the rodeo.  I'd be happy to answer anything prenatal, labor/delivery or post natal.  I warn you this could get graphic.  Also, any other second time moms, feel free to jump in!

  • I don't comment much on a lot of posts.  Mainly because the question has already been answered or they're questions that you really should be asking your doctor, but I try to jump in where I can help fill in gaps.  This will be my third child.  I've had experience with miscarriage (occurring naturally [at 8 weeks] and with D&C [at 17 weeks]), babies in the NICU, and Rh negative blood type. I feel like I'm writing a resume lol
  • Sorry for your losses @SaraC381.

@WinchestertoPittsburgh I totally have the same cramping pains but it's natural for me.  I'm used to them.

I had an emergency cesarean due to near stroke while pushing, developed a fever and DS ended up in the NICU.  Perfectly happy and healthy kid now :) And momma too.

  • That is scary....glad you are both doing well now!
  • Thank you ladies! Sounds like y'all will be so helpful to us first time mom's. This is my first pregnancy and I am so excited and so nervous. We've finally gotten pregnant after several IVF cycles and this most recent was a frozen embryo transfer.

My question would be how much spotting have you experienced in your first trimester? I always spot before my period and had a twinge of brown spotting on Thursday night and Friday morning but none since then. I just want to be prepared not to freak out if/when I spot in the next few weeks.

    Thank you!!

  • Spotting during your first trimester is not not normal. If you have enough blood to fill a sanitary napkin or if the blood is bright red, contact your doctor.

  • I am so glad that someone brought up the cramping. This is my first pregnancy and I was talking to DH about the cramping and he told me it was all in my head. (he really is a nice guy, he just knows that I'm excited). There are so many different things happening that I'm constantly going, is this pregnancy related or just life related.

Glad we could help! Husbands/significant others try but it's very hard to relate.

  • I'm glad this thread is here!!

I am a first time mom, and I have a lot of friends that have kids, but i'm not ready to announce it. I'm trying really hard to save this information for Thanksgiving when the whole family is together. My mom cant keep a secret to save her life! At Thanksgiving i'll be about 10 weeks, and I know it's still early but we live in different states.

OK, Spotting.  I had 'brown discharge' for a couple of days while going NUTS in the TWW. It has since passed and there's nothing. IDK if that's normal, but since it's stopped and the tests are still positive i'm going to go with it.

I think my biggest issue right now is the sore boobs!!! they hurt so badly!! just sitting here in a bra they hurt. At home with no bra they hurt even more!! They're also getting bigger!! they're almost a cup size bigger!! I'm already a 34DDD!!!

Secondary is the morning sickness. I feel hungry but looking at food makes me want to hurl! I told DH that I thought it would be a good idea to get one of those plastic ice cream buckets and keep one in my car in case i do throw up! Any teas or tips and tricks anyone can suggest would be nice!

  • 1. Normal
    2. Normal
    3. Normal

Announcing at thanksgiving will be so special! It will be so great that everyone is all together.

Light spotting at the beginning of a pregnancy is super normal. You'll see it all over the first tri board. Though, admittedly, it's still super scary. If the blood isn't bright red and you wouldn't consider it enough to fill a sanitary napkin then it's likely all good. If you're still nervous, call your doctor.

Oh girl, you just wait with the boobs. They're coming for ya (us!) Sensitivity is SO normal right now. I'm sorry they're bothering you though.

For morning sickness I recommend keeping sucking candies and saltines handy for when the nausea is at its worst. Also, check out pregnancy pops. They're lollipops that help with morning sickness. Decaf tea, bananas, dry cereal, ginger ale are all things that could help. Hope you feel better soon!

  • Spotting and sore boobs....completely normal!  Get you a good sports bra that's easy to get on and off.  The less jiggle you have going on, the easier it'll be to tolerate.   Same goes for once your milk comes in after the birth.

As for morning sickness, I couldn't handle the preggie pops at all.  They were nasty to me.  The only thing that settled my stomach was peppermint ice cream (not mint chocolate chip)...and hey, it was a good excuse to eat ice cream!  My aunt and sister, however, swear by hot cinnamon candies (Fire Balls or cinnamon jolly ranchers).

I feel ya on the boobs. I went in to get fitted at a maternity store with my first DD. Yeah the lady there said she had never actually seen my size before (34F)
  • As not a first timer what are you most looking forward to during pregnancy (clearly I know we are all here for the baby, but I mean are there any upsides or good things that come from pregnancy? What about most not looking forward to (ie was was the worst part for you in the past)?
  • SparkySunshine i think i'm going to have to order something later in life. I can only imagine how lopsided i'll look breast feeding!!

I think my issue is still amazement. We got pregnant on our first try!! We kind of tried last cycle but not really. We had a date in mind to start trying because we have a cruise at the end of January into Feb.

I have some of the preggie pop drops and they're helping, but I think some lifesavers would work just as well.

The preggie pops with B6 worked much better for me than the plain ones. Some OBs recommend taking a B6 supplement to help with nausea. It never stopped the vomiting, but helped ease my nausea enough so I could kinda function.

    Edit: words

Watching DS or DD move in my stomach is one of the most amazing things.  I love pregnancy -- I feel happiest and healthiest during it.  I'm not looking forward to sciatica pain though - that's intense for me.

I had to order all mine. Just remeber to keep track of which side you feed from last! Totally kept me from being lopsided
