You seem concerned so just call your doctor's office and ask if it's something you should worry about or if there is added risk because of premature labor because your already at 2cm.

I will say that I was 2cm for like 6 weeks at the end of my first pregnancy and ended up having to be induced.

  • You can be 2cm, 4 cm, etc, for months and it not be a worry. If your doctor wasn't concerned (just an "Oh and by the way...") and you're not experiencing contractions I wouldn't worry about it!
  • I can see why you'd be concerned. What'd your doctor say about it?

  • Unless you're having contractions or bleeding or your doctor gave you reason to be concerned, I wouldn't worry too much about it.  But I agree with the others who suggested you call  your doctor's office to ask questions if you feel uneasy.  It's always better to have peace of mind.
  • I, too, agree with PPs that if you are concerned call your dr. If they did not seem worried though, I wouldn't be. Although, I understand why you are. Good luck!
  • Why did you have a cervical check in the first place?

  • Your cervix can be 2 cm long closed and that's a sign of shortening and it is different then 2 cm dilated. I hope this the first one.
  • Agree with the last post. It could be the length of your cervix that they measured. I have a short cervix and they did an additional ultrasound and found that when pressure is applied my cervix doesn't dialate--which is a good thing. Provided I don't have contractions or bleeding they told me not to worry at this point. With my first I too was dialated to 3 for the last five weeks---thought I would go early with all the contractions I had but still had to end up being induced with several medical interventions.

  • I have a shorten cervix and stay at 2mm of a cervix from 22-38 weeks. I was monitored as a high risk due to my shortened cervix. My 3 year old is happy and healthy so seek a second opinion but don't stress.
  • If it's shorter, this is still a very dangerous position to be in. It gets shorter before it dilates. Most women with a funneling cervix do NOT necessarily experience any other signs of trouble until they suffer premature rupture of membranes--and by the time your water breaks, you're not at all in a good place to continue your pregnancy for long... If you have a shortened cervix, you should be monitored to ensure it doesn't shorten further. If it's begun to funnel, there's a good chance it's not about to stop funneling on its own.

They check your cervix during ultrasounds. She didn't have an internal exam if that's what you meant.
