Active Mamas check-in!

I know a lot of active mamas have had their babies and some of us (like me) are still pregnant.

If you've had your baby, do you feel like your workouts helped your delivery and recovery so far?

If you're still waiting on baby, what are you doing to stay active??

Re: Active Mamas check-in!

  • I'll start - At 39 weeks, I've abandoned my group workout classes because I just can't keep up and I've been getting terrible cramps. However, I've been trying to walk every day and keeping up with my toddler has been pretty athletic the bigger my belly gets!

  • My LO is 2 weeks old. My L&D went really well. I only pushed for 5 minutes, no tearing .

I'm a crossfit mama. I am itching to get back to the gym! I know I have to wait a bit but 6 weeks seems like a long time. I'm wondering if I can start doing more than walking?

@brooke&Jesse I think you can start walking but check with your doc. I know I plan to ASAP.

I am 38+4 and have still been doing CrossFit and walking. I have to modify a lot with my workouts, but the nice to get in there and keep moving. I definitely get BH during the workouts sometimes. I'm also walking a 10K on Sunday (with doc's approval). I'm hoping that will get things moving and either way I'll be proud of myself for completing it at 39 weeks pregnant.

  • I ran up until 34 weeks and after that I kept up with going to the gym and doing elliptical and lifting weights 4 days a week until I was 39 weeks. This is my third pregnancy and the first two I wasn't nearly as active. I'm now postpartum day 11 and I must say I bounced back very quickly this time! I can't wait to run again but walking will have to do for now.
  • I'm still doing the elliptical about 4 days a week, prenatal yoga DVD the other days, and walking my puppy with DH for about 30 minutes almost every day.

I'm 38w4d hoping to maintain this as long as I can...and that it brings this little boy soon!!

I crossfitted until 38 weeks and baby came at 39. I stopped at 38 because it was taking my body too long to recover and I didn't want to be sore going into labor. I think crossfitting helped me with pushing as it took less than 15 minutes and 5 contractions. And I stopped doing weighted squats around 20 weeks because my pelvis was causing me pain.

ETA- I'm 3 weeks pp and when I asked my ob about working out before 6 weeks she said the risks were hemorraging and she did not recommend it. I'm certainly not ready to go back, my body is still so achy, but I am trying to take walks.
  • I was active with my usual workouts (though I took them more slowly) until 36-37 weeks, and then I just totally hit a wall. Now I've just been walking 2-3 miles most days. I'm 40+2 and hoping to have baby soon!
  • I'm 40+1 and I stopped running about week 37, but I still walk, do light 3.5 arm weight exercises (akin to barre class) and I have stairs in my house that I walk up and down for 10min intervals twice a day (I go pretty slow though, it's more just keeping me moving).
  • Doc says she thinks I'll have a very quick labor, I'd like to think staying active has helped! Walked 5 miles today hoping to get things going
  • I worked out until checking in at 40w. I'm now 15 days pp and did my first workout today (free weight video- The Firm). It went well, but I think the squats were pushing it a little (I had a 2nd degree tear). I'll prob walk more and do upper body/post partum abs for a little bit. I think it always helps to stay active. I gained 33 lbs both of my pregnancies and lost it quickly both times. I've lost 23 lbs already and interested to see how long it takes to get back to pre pregnancy weight. I started insanity at 5 weeks pp last time and was back to pp weight by 3.5 months out. Also, I don't know if it helped, but my babe this time was 10 lb 2 oz and was able to birth him vaginally in 25 mins and didn't tear any worse than I did with DS1, who was 8 lb 7 oz.

  • My LO is 3 weeks and my L&D couldn't have gone better!
I had contractions for about 3 hours and pushed 6 times before he was born with no tearing and I left the hospital with baby boy 24 hours later on early discharge.

I'm a crossfit momma and I completely give a lot of credit to continuing my workouts through my pregnancy. Can't wait to get back to the gym!
