Migraine help!

I cannot sleep because I have the worst migraine. Usually I take heavy duty meds and pass out but obviously I cannot do that. Tylenol is not even worth it because it doesn't do anything for me. Does anyone have any suggestions???

Re: Migraine help!

  • I've been having the same problem.  My migraines have always been hormone driven, so, yeah.  No advice at the moment, just hugs.  I'm going to ask my OB about it at my appointment today.

  • If I were you I would call my OBgyn, there are medication that you can take when migraines get really severe.

I also suffer from migraines and it is horrible during pregnancy. Things that helped me was to put a hot or cold compress on my head and neck. Also bathing in magnesium sulphate salts (EPSOM salts) helped a lot. Chamomile tea can also help, haven't had a migraine for this pregnancy, but I am going to try it this time. Good luck to you and I really hope you feel better soon.
  • I got migraines with my first and the only thing that helped was iced water with fresh lemon juice....it also helped with the nausea
  • Hi. I also suffer from terrible migraines that make me vomit. I usually take sumitriptan which is great but now that I am pregnant I need to check if it's ok to take. Personally, I would speak to your doctober asap. In the meantime, If you are home, take a teatowel and run it under ice cold water. Fold and apply to forehead. I know it sounds stupid but it really helps numb the pain! Just keep it really cold...
  • Whoops "Doctor"....
  • Thank you for all of the suggestions. I have a call into my doctor and have been drinking cold water with lemon. My headache is starting to subside but of course I will have lingering pain for days. I miss my meds!! :(

  • I've had migraines since my 2nd trimester with my last baby. Those were so bad I went to the hospital for a migraine cocktail as they call it. Only thing that helps. Now that I'm expecting again, I'm dealing with a migraine again Dr said if it doesn't ease up soon to go to er and get the medicine. I hate doing it but its the only relief I get. I also see a chiropractor weekly and that sometimes relieves it immediately. Just a thought.
  • You can take exedrin tension headache while pregant, but not exedrin migraine :0(

Something that helps me when I get migraines: sit on the edge of your bathtub with your feet in warm water, and put a cold bag of frozen veggies on the back of your neck. Crazy, but it helps.

  • During my last pregnancy my doctor put me on fioricet for migraines. I'm not sure if it can be taken during first trip or not though. In the meantime try Tylenol and a coke and take a nap in a quiet dark room.
