Let's talk spotting...

I spot before every period usually 2-3 days. I am on both progesterone and estrogen for the last half of my cycle... Do you think I should still spot? How many of you spot before your period? Any regular spotters still spot before AF would have shown up but end up pregnant? (I'm sure the last question may not be best suited for this board as we are all TTC but maybe there are some lurkers that can answer?)

Moved to Prague, Czech Republic for IVF
2 Natural IVF cycles, 3 full IVF cycles, 4 transfers, 1 BFP - heard heartbeat at 6w5d
Diagnosed MMC at 9w1d on 11/30/15
Headed back home to Colorado 12/12/15

DE attempt in Czech Republic!! 

March trip to Prague canceled due to Pancreatitis. :sob:
Headed to Prague April 30
3 different donors resulted in 1 PGS tested embryo and 1 fresh embryo
2 embryo's transferred (from 2 different donors) on 5/10/16
BFP on 5/15/16 at 5dp5dt
Beta 1 = 81 at 8dp5dt, Beta 2 = 295 at 10dp5dt, Beta 3 = 891 at 12dt5dt. Beta 4 = 2114 at 14dp5dt, Beta 5 = 4916 at 16dp5dt, Beta 6 = 13252 at 19dp5dt
Heartbeat at 6w5d 133BPM <3
We are having a GIRL!!! Due Jan 26, 2017

    Ugh...I HATE spotting. I do it 2-3 days prior to AF too. I still spot on progesterone supplements (prometrium 200 mg 2xs a day). I have only been on both estrace (vaginally 2xs a day) and prometrium once (Clomid thinned my lining and estrace saved my chances). That was the only time I didn't spot before AF was due. The day of AF, I had the lightest of light pink when I wiped. I then stopped both medicines because of my BFN, and I spotted about 2 days before AF actually showed.

    I asked this same question on PAIF and SAIF boards. Ladies responded both ways. Some still had spotting and others didn't. Unfortunately, not much guidance to slow down that extra hilly rollercoaster we're on every month. It sure is heartbreaking when spotting starts every month, especially because I feel I'm most likely out but still hold on to that hope only to be crushed again when AF shows.

    I feel your pain and wish there was a way to fix it!

    Unexplained with (controlled) hypothyroidism and suspected ovulatory dysfunction (but, I do ovulate on my own)
    Clomid 50 mg 3/15 (unmonitored) - BFN
    Clomid 50 mg + metformin 4/15 (unmonitored) - BFN 
    First RE appt. 5/15; Natural cycle 5/15 monitored with 2 mature follicles and Pregnyl Trigger (full dose) + prometrium - BFN
    6/15 HSG - clear tubes & normal uterus; great PCT test results
    TI - 100 mg Clomid + prometrium (AM & PM) + vaginal estrace (AM & PM) 6-7/15 (monitored) --> no additional response and thinned lining - BFN
    TI - Injectables (follistim + Gonal-F, Ganirelix, & 1/2 dose Pregnyl) + prometrium (AM & PM) 9/15 --> 3-7 mature follicles (3 definites and 4+ that could have matured due to trigger) @ O -->BFN + 5 large cysts
    BC for 2 weeks due to cysts
    TI - Injectables (Gonal-F, Ganirelix & full dose Pregnyl) + prometrium (AM & PM) 10/15 --> 1 mature follicle --> BFN 
    TI - Last attempt at injectables (Gonal-F, Ganirelix & 1/2 dose Pregnyl) + crinone (AM only) + vaginal estrace (AM & PM) 11/15 --> 3-4 mature follicles --> BFP!! 11/27/15 @ 13dpo (shockingly, actually waited until then to test)

    Beta #1 @ 16dpo (11/30/15) = 1,075
    Beta #2 @ 19dpo (12/3/15) = 3,150
    One baby: Saw heartbeat @ 5w5d (114 bpm; baby measuring 2.3mm)

    I used to spot for a few days before AF, but when I started Prometrium, that was it. I would stop it after negative beta, and within two days AF showed up.

    If there was any spotting and you ended up pregnant, it would be implantation bleed which would typically be lighter in color (pink/red), as opposed to brownish (at least that's what my spotting looked like). Beyond low progesterone, is there anything else that could explain your spotting?

    @KidShrink My RE told me some people are just spotters and my progesterone should be fine with the supplements and low progesterone isn't causing it. It still frustrates me like crazy, though!

    Hi Ladies,

    I unfortunately deal with a lot of spotting. My cycles are a little bit erratic to say the least. I have experienced spotting of almost a week intermittently before AF. I was told on these occasions it may have been an anovulatory cycle (meaning no egg released). I have some months where I don't spot and I get naively excited, but unfortunately in my case I've never been pregnant at all. No bfp ever in my history sadly... so I don't necessarily think there's a correlation, but that may just be due to my poor luck situation.

    When I did my IVF cycles, I was on prometrium and did not spot until I went off, just like you all said. Those were BFNs as well...

    Started TTC April 2011
    Me: 32, DH: 32
    Diagnosis: Endometriosis

    • 2012 - 3 Rounds clomid - all BFN
    • 2013 - 1 Fresh IVF with 2 day 3 embryos - BFN
    • 2014 - 1 Frozen IVF with 2 day 5 embryos - BFN
    • Took a long break, continuing trying naturally
    • Feb 2016 - Biopsy = Endo, DH sperm improved from 1% to 6% morphology
    • March 2016 - Fresh IVF cycle with acupuncture & intralipids: 20 eggs retrieved (17 mature), 7 ICSI'd fertilized, 9 naturally fertilized. 16 total embryos!
    • April 8th - 2 embryos (1ICSI and 1 Natural) transferred. (7 blastocysts frozen), April 18th - Beta = BFN
    • Sept 23rd - Lupron Depot Injection for Endo control
    • Nov 15th 2016 - Started daily Lupron Injections for upcoming FET
    • Nov 22 - Baseline US/BW - Intralipid Infusion - Start Meds for FET with immune protocol
    • Dec 16th FET transfer of 3 embryos (1 - AA, 2 - BB)
    • TW below
    • Dec 22nd - first ever bfp (very faint lines FRER & cheapie)
    • Dec 27th Beta = 192, Dec 29th Beta = 379
    • EDD - Sept 5th 2017

    @riveridgional  You feel my pain!! That is exactly what spotting is like for me. I SO hate it!!  I am on Utrogestan (Euro version of Prometrium) 200mg 3x/day and Estrofem (Euro estrogen) 2mg 3x/day and I thought that with all of this I wouldn't spot but I am having the slightest dark brown spotting that started last night. UGH!! So frustrating. I do feel like this means that I am out for this cycle but like you said - I am still holding out hope... I am so exhausted from this roller coaster.

    @kidshrink Unfortunately it is not the right time for implantation spotting. I am going to ask my RE again what else could be going on but I am not hopeful for an answer.

    @oxinfree I have confirmed ovulation so I know it isn't that... the spotting happens every single cycle. I can however relate to the never ever having a bfp. I have never ever been pregnant. So sad.

    Thank you ladies for responding. This rollercoaster is so hard and I really appreciate your support..

    @susykat77 When you said dark brown, I was thinking that sounded like a good sign, but didn't want to feed into the emotional rollercoaster! I just read about your BFP on a different discussion. Congrats! As a fellow pre-AF spotter, can you tell me if your spotting increased or changed colors at all. Was it like your typical pre-AF spotting or any different? You're giving me hope!!

    @riveridgional I can't believe it!!!! I'm so excited!! It was dark brown on Thursday night. And then on Friday morning is was very very faint. And then none for the rest of the day. For me it was definitely different but it started out the same way as usual. Normally the spotting builds until AF comes. I was so depressed after seeing the spotting but positive pregnancy tests and beta have me shocked!!!

    @oxinfree thank you so much! Every time I would spot I would lose hope and this time I ended up pregnant! Don't lose hope.
