Side effect of being on BC for extended time??

So I was on BC for 10 years solid and when we decided we were ready to TTC it only took 6 weeks for us . I have heard rumors that you have a higher chances of twins if you conceive right after you come off BC because your body doesn't know how to regulate how many eggs you release for a couple months . Anyone know if this has any truth or if it's total bogus ? I have my first u/s tomorrow and I will be 5w6d

  • I know Dr. Google says this is one way to increase your chances of conceiving twins. IMO, I definitely wouldn't count on that factor or get too excited about the possibility of twins based on just that. I know several women who have conceived right away after coming off BCPs, and all of them only had one little human in there :)

  • It does but its such a small amount that it is negligible in reality. Normal women have a 1 in 286 chance (0.3%), just off the pill is a 3 in 500 chance (0.6%).
  • Genetics and a women's age are going to have a lot more to do with twins than just coming off the pill. I think the only side effect of being on the pill for a long time is high blood pressure. But just in general, not anything related to pregnancy.

  • We got pregnant first cycle off of BC with DD and she's only one person lol. Like @Sgoldberg247 said, it's a pretty negligible difference.

    ^^^^ this :)
  • My sister and her husband conceived twins her first cycle after removing her IUD but it had only been in for a year or so. Twins also run in our family, so that probably had more to do with it.
