Halloween is my favorite holiday! I've been trying to come up with a cool "bump" costume. Anyone else dressing up? What are some of the costumes you've thought of or seen in the past?

I've seen different variations of things coming out of the belly (baby's limbs, monster, etc), with blood and that kind of stuff. I feel like it works better if you have a big belly than small bump. I got a Snow White costume (with the wig and all) last year, so I think I'll end up wearing that one again as it was just loose enough to hold a little bump.
We're not doing anything special for Halloween, just having friends over for a game night after our trick or treat ends. So I just made a little shirt, the letters and faces glow in the dark. We get so many kids we just sit on our porch constantly giving out candy. (Excuse the dirty mirror! I forget to clean it until I want to take a photo.)
@KidShrink I'm typically a gore fan for Halloween, but DH thinks I should make it a bit more PG this year. I figure by Halloween I should have a decent bump going (at the rate we're growing now lol). I saw a few contenders: the Death Star (I love Star Wars), the solar system with bump as the sun, a black widow spider...
@blessedwtwins We usually have a party every year, decided to skip it this year. Was thinking of having a few people over for a fire and maybe some outdoor movies on the projector...your shirt is cute! Congrats on the twins!!

I hear you! I think those costumes are interesting, but not something I'd dare doing! I also have an old catwoman costume (we dressed as superheroes one year, DH was Superman...he's never let go since), but there's no way I'd fit in there! It wasn't too PG to begin with which is why I got Snow White last year for work...I worked in a pediatric clinic! The kids loved my costume! There was a little girl with severe autism who dressed up as Elsa (I wanted to be Elsa too but went too late and couldn't find any). There's a picture of the two of us as princesses. My friend who still works with her showed her the picture again this week in preparation for Halloween. She apparently pointed at me. So my friend told her I was expecting...she apparently looked confused at first, and then had the biggest smile on her face and signed 'baby' (she doesn't speak). I teared up!
I wish I'd have a bump big enough to dress up this year! We are supposed to be going to a game night the night before Halloween so I will probably dress up, but I don't know as what. I really wanted to dress like Juno and see how long it would take everyone to figure out but it's much too soon for us to tell people.

@AdorkablePixie : how far along will you be by Halloween? We've broken the news...once a heartbeat is heard and you pass week 9, chances of a miscarriage are pretty slim. Even more so if you're having morning sickness. Anyway, Juno would be a pretty cool way of breaking the news
@KidShrink, I am unsure of where you heard/read that but it is simply not true. Intensity of symptoms or lack of symptoms has no correlation with a healthy pregnancy. I just don't want anyone with little to no ms to think something is wrong for that reason alone. I myself had only two episodes of ms and am carrying twins, which old wives tales told me I should be sick more so than with a singleton.
Not everyone does, and it's not because you don't have MS that you should worry (a good friend of mine is pregnant with her second, never had an ounce on nausea and is doing perfectly fine). But, there is actually research that shows that MS is associated with such things as lower risk of miscarriage and so on (see p. 7 or slide 9 of this document from the Motherisk Program at SickKids Hospital in Toronto) : https://www.motherisk.org/documents/BSRC_morning_sickness_EN.pdf
That's interesting. I'd like to know what studies they are discussing that show it may mean a healthier pregnancy and baby.
Eta, I hope that doesn't read sarcastic because I'd honestly like to read those other studies. My specialists and ob have all preached symptoms mean nothing in regards to things like that.
Getting back to the OP - not quite a costume, but I ordered this T from Amazon because we are calling this baby "Yoda" in utero. Hubs will wear a t-shirt that says, "come to the dark side, we have cookies."
@KidShrink I've never heard that the chances of miscarriage are higher if you don't have morning sickness. My mom had four kids, my aunt had two and neither of them ever had morning sickness. I haven't had morning sickness either. If I wait too long to eat in the morning my stomach starts feeling iffy but as soon as I eat I am fine, and haven't gotten to the point where I felt I needed to throw up. I can't look at that slide show because I'm on my work computer. Maybe I'll remember to pull out my own computer later and look. lol
Oh, we aren't telling people until I am in my second trimester because that's when the risk of miscarriage goes down. The only people that know right now are the ones that knew we were having issues getting pregnant.

@blessedwtwins I googled it and what she's saying is true. There are a couple of websites that go into it, but there are never any studies mentioned. Not specific ones that I saw anyway. I feel like they're just basing it off the fact that most women get morning sickness and they give birth to healthy babies. The articles all mention that people who don't get morning sickness also carry full term and have healthy babies. I feel like they just wrote that to make people who get REALLY REALLY sick feel better.
I was scared though so had to google it. lol

'Normal' google won't be your best source of information if you want the actual studies. You'll need to go on Google Scholar or an actual research/academic search engine. There's a meta-analysis from 1989 showing the protective effect of morning sickness on pregnancy (i.e. This knowledge had been around for a long time). BUT, all of these studies are correlational and therefore don't imply causation. So it's not because you're feeling fine that you'll lose your baby. MS just increases the chances of not loosing baby, in the same way (pardon the weird analogy, but it's the best my brain can find right now) that smoking increases risk for lung cancer. However, not everyone who smokes has lung cancer, and not everyone with lung cancer smoked. It sure helps to feel better when you throw up half your breakfast that it's most likely not happening for nothing.
@KidShrink that is a good analogy. I'll have to read the studies because I'd like to know what they based their studies off of. For example, how many people with morning sickness did they question (or follow, whatever), how many people without did they question, etc.
