Baby's ventricles

Today I had a ultrasound to look at my baby's mouth to make sure he didn't have a cleft lip. At my 20 week anatomy scan they weren't able to see his lips very well.
Today at 27 weeks 6 days, I had this ultrasound and they measured everything again. Everything turned out great, except for one thing. His ventricles in his brain are measured at 10mm witch is the highest they are supposed to be. So I have to go back in 4 weeks to check them again. If they measure higher then I will be sent to a specialist to get further test done.

My question is, has anyone else had this happen with their babies? I am really trying not to worry about it because my dr said that most of the time it just stays at this level witch is fine. But at the same time I'm worried for the outcome.

  • Praying everything comes out normal. I know how stressful it can be when all you can do is wait. I have not heard of this but hopefully you can ask the doctor for more information so you have a little bit of relief while you wait.

  • We had to go in to a couple specialists to check out issues they noticed with our little guys heart. It was only a 1 week wait between each appointment, but I made those weeks miserable by being so nervous. Once we got our diagnosis I was almost relieved that I finally had an answer and I could stop thinking about all the possibilities. Please try to relax! There is nothing you can do until the next checkup and if they were super concerned they would have sent you in for an appointment as soon as possible! Hoping all turns out great for you :) try not to worry!! I know it's hard!
  • At 24 weeks, our baby had a ventricle measuring in the 97th percentile- upper normal range so I think similar to yours. We saw a specialist a week later to get a second a opinion- longest, most nerve wracking week of my life! Baby was just fine and everything had evened out. Sometimes they are just in the middle of a growth spurt and things are a little goofy. I would say try to relax but I know that's impossible.
  • Oh and good luck! :)
