First Time Mom... Excited & Scared

Hello Mommies!
Just want to start off by saying Congratulations to all of us! I'm a first timer, 5w today, and I'm so scared! I find myself going to the bathroom every time I feel something just to find some clear discharge, but nothing else. My breasts are sore & I'm falling asleep earlier than usual, but, other than that, no other symptoms. I did have blood work done to make sure my levels were going up... 4w 438 & 5w 5,998. Dr says everything looks good, but I find myself "paranoid" and not fully embracing this new journey bc I'm really afraid of loss. Any words of wisdom or comfort appreciated. Thank you.

Re: First Time Mom... Excited & Scared

  • I'm a first time mommy too!! I am also extremely nervous and anxious about losing the baby. I'm trying to be calm and enjoy the pregnancy but it's so hard to not be worried. I am very excited though :) H&H 9 months!!

  • I'm also a first time mom and am 5 weeks today! I feel your pain - I am so paranoid! Especially if I feel discharge!!
I haven't had bloodwork yet, wish I did!! When are you having your first ultrasound?

  • Seems like we're on the same path! My first US is on November 2. I did the blood work with my primary Dr just to confirm. I want to be sooooo excited, but scared takes over. Can't wait for that US. Hopefully, it'll help fear subside. Good luck to you! It's nice to see other women on here that share the same thoughts.
  • Is your due date June 16th? I have my first appointment October 23rd and will then be able to schedule my ultrasound :) I think we will feel better when we see/hear the heartbeats!

  • Congratulations! Worrying about your LO is totally normal. As much as possible, try to relax and enjoy the ride. It's so much easier said than done.

To help me relax during my last pregnancy, I kept a journal of letters to my LO. At the time, no one else knew, so it was an opportunity to discuss my feelings. Plus, I used TB to vent.

  • I'm in the same boat. I think I'm 5.5 weeks but my betas are way high so my RE thinks I'm farther along and is getting me a dating ultrasound.

All these cramps feel like period cramps to me and I keep thinking my discharge is going to be blood, but it never is!

Also, the MS thing is messing with my mind. I find myself leaning toward bland foods as if I had the stomach flu but I keep telling myself it's not a stomach flu and I need healthy wholesome foods!

@samsonator Yes! Based on my last period, my due date is June 16. Let's see what the dr says in a few weeks. An ultrasound will definitely make us feel better!
  • @CopperLane Yes, the cramps feel exactly like period cramps!!! Luckily they haven't been:)

  • Same boat.  I am so terrified that something is going to go wrong because so far, this is all too good to be true (ku on the first try, first month off BCPs).  I am getting **Tmi? crazy amounts of discharge *** and its freaking me out because I'm all sorts of crampy too.  I also have moments of terror/thinking "what did we do!?!?!" followed by surges of excitement that we were successful.  So yeah, totally get you, just breathe and hope for the best.
  • Congrats!!  Just relax and enjoy :-)

  • I feel the same way, I'm 4w5d and I just took another test because I'm paranoid lol.  Every time I feel something, I rush to the bathroom, only to find nothing or a bit of clear discharge.  Every time I have a cramp, I worry, even though I know it's normal.  Even though I feel like this, I always try to tell myself that everything is okay. I don't know how I'm going to wait all the way until November for my ultrasound. It's so far away!

I wish you all a happy and healthy 9 months!

  • I am 5 weeks and 5 days and I'm the exact same way. Feel like I will have a miscarriage at any moment. I'm paranoid
  • You are not alone.  First time mommy here with 2 losses.  I am 39, so I'm "advanced maternal age" and have thyroid issues as well as the MFTHR gene mutation that leaves me susceptible to blood clots.  Suffice it to say, I am paranoid about every little twinge, every little thing that could possibly be a sign of DOOM.  Thankfully I have a supportive husband who frequently talks me down from the ledge!  6weeks 1 day today.

  • It's my second time around and all I can say I was the same paranoid, cramping all the time, a lot of discharge (which on my first appointment my Dr said it was normal ) very emotional. All I can say is hang in there ladies you'll feel much better once you get and ultrasound and know that the baby is ok.. and after the 12 weeks stage seems like it's long ways away but trust me it will go by so fast you'll be surprised.
  • I'm 6 weeks and I do the same thing, such a nerve wracking time but everyone tells me to relax and don't over think it. I started walking 3 miles a day and that's helped calm me quite a bit and I chug water like crazy. I spent last weekend crying terrified of loss and I just had to make the decision to not do it anymore. It was hard. Hang in there!! xx
