Just left my 1st appointment. They did an US but could not find anything. Dr Said it may be too early and is sending me to radiology for an internal exam. I am freaking out!
During my first dr apt at 8 weeks during my last pregnancy the dr did a vaginal ultrasound. Why couldn't the doctor just do the vaginal ultrasound in his or her office instead of making you wait?
@emucoleman 7 weeks @cluelesssm I have no idea why this doctor has to give me a heart attack. She told me they do not do vaginal US and I just spoke to a friend who goes to the same practice and she said she had a vaginal US. I'm so confused!
This seems weird. If you don't like or trust your doctor then you might want to look for a different one. Doctors should calm your anxiety, not add to it.

I wouldn't panic! Doctors are supposed to do vaginal US this early in pregnancy because the embryo is so small and it's much easier to detect vaginally. They should know at 8 weeks that a regular US isn't going to find the baby - just relax and make sure you get than vaginal US. Stress is not good
Weird. An OB's office should have vaginal u/s...I can't believe they need to send you to radiology for a vaginal u/s; they sent me to radiology for abdominal scans.
I'd be making an appointment with a new OB tomorrow but that's just my opinion. At a minimum calling the office to make sure they know the nurse practitioner did the wrong ultrasound.
That's really strange. Vaginal u/s are pretty standard for first tri. I transferred care for a similar reason and I'm so glad I did! Fingers crossed for a great follow up!
Dude I can't believe they didn't give you a vaginal ultrasound???? I've never even heard of that! Last time I did get an abdominal ultrasound first, but then they did the vaginal one right after. Why they did both I don't know, but they knew better than to just leave it at the abdominal one. I don't think they actually see anything w/abdominal until 12 weeks.
It does seem strange, especially since your friend had one done at the same office. The machine is on wheels, they should be able to share lol. Maybe the Nurse Practitioner is new? I would think about not using him or her again. In the meantime good luck with your follow up apt!!
I have to wait until Friday afternoon for an US. Ahhhh
The more I think about this doctor, the more I don't like what she did to me. You are supposed to have a full Bladder, right? Well, after my exam I used the bathroom and no one said anything to me about drinking. Would it have really have been a game changer if I had a full bladder during the US?

Ugh... Just venting!
**lurking from May**
A full bladder is definitely necessary for an abdominal ultrasound at 7 weeks (and for several weeks after that)! I can't believe they didn't prep you for that?! Even with a full bladder it's sometimes difficult to see much of anything that early with an abdominal ultrasound, so a lot of doctors opt for T/Vs instead. Sorry you're in limbo, fx for you!
I had a regular ultrasound today and saw nothing, they followed it immediately after with a vaginal and saw the baby and saw the heartbeat. You aren't supposed to see much without a vaginal right now! If anything, you're normal!
Ok here is an update!! I BEGGED the radiology department to take me today and they finally agreed.
Everything is fine and the tech did not even need to do a vaginal US. Everything looks good and I saw the heart flickering!! Yay! I feel so much better!!
I am now switching practices. That doctor deserves a punch in the face. Kidding (maybe not!)
Thank you all for listening to my vent. All of your advice was correct! Now I can carry on with my life.
I'm sorry about the stress, but a lot of these other mamas have the best words and encouragement. I'm so glad everything looks good now and you saw the heart flickering! Happy to hear you're switching practices and hopefully getting the better care you deserve.
Re: 7 weeks.. 1st dr. Appt.. And worried!
Edit: grammar.

I have to call the radiology dept. tomorrow and schedule my vaginal US. Until then, I panic!!!
I will keep everyone updated!

The anxiety of this situation just sucks!
