unfavorable cervix anyone?

First off, what the heck does it mean and any stories!??

Re: unfavorable cervix anyone?

  • Mine was 'unfavorable' I was still closed and not thinned at my 37 week appointment. The doctor told me, I would most likely end up in a c-section after a long hard labor because my body will probably no progress.

At my 38 week appointment.... I was 50 effaced, and 2cm dilated.
I subconsciously worried myself when she told me my cervix was unfavorable. I have come to realize....after delivering my daughter last night, vaginally and all natural....
Don't listen to them. I mean... listen to them, but also understand our bodies change so much during all of this! No two deliveries will be the same. Take it a day at a time Momma!!

  • I had an unfavorable cervix up until my water broke. In fact they were going to send me home since it was shut up nice and tight and then my water broke and a half an hour later I was 90% effaced and 2 cm dilated. I did have a placental abruption though so i'm not sure how this affected everything. I wouldn't worry about it to much.
  • I am 40 + 1 with no signs whatsoever - no dilation, no contractions, no plug- nothing. I am scheduled to be induced next Wednesday (41 + 1) so I'm hoping my cervix will magically get going one of these days leading up to that.
  • I'm a FTM and was told that my cervix was unfavorable too. When I started to ask questions my doctor just said as a FTM they do not like to induce early with an unfavorable cervix. With a healthy pregnancy they will let you go over because you are just not ready yet. No big deal! However, I have GD and if it doesn't improve they will do a CS instead of induction because being unfavorable and forcing your body often ends in CS anyways. It was my impression as a STM your body knows what to do and will respond better even if you are unfavorable when being induced.
  • I'm right there with you all ladies. 40 weeks and 2 days pregnant today. I was checked on Monday and was told I did not have a good cervix... when I asked what that meant, she said she didn't mean I didn't have a good cervix, but rather that it wasn't ready.(Well that's a better way to put it! lol) I was checked again today and same thing... I'm soft, but not open. Not dilated at all. I go back on Friday for one more check, but I have already been scheduled to be induced on Sunday night. (I'll be 41 weeks) She said my cervix is "way back there" in the posterior position and closed up tight. Here's hoping something happens in the next couple of days... because I haven't had any contractions, pains or anything. If nothing happens before Sunday... I'm just crossing my fingers that being induced goes smoothly. Good luck all!

  • I was told I also had an unfavorable cervix (38 + 5) but that's first time moms don't always dilate until actual labor starts so not to worry. I'm being induced on Monday anyway due to GD. I wasn't told it would make my induction any worse. They plan on sending me in the night before to prep my cervix.

I was never told that I had an unfavorable cervix but mine wouldn't dilate on its own. I went into active labor on Saturday and when I arrived at the hospital my cervix was still closed despite my contractions coming 2 minutes apart. I was obviously concerned about this and was able to learn that the reason I wouldn't dilate was because of a Leep procedure that was done several years ago. Once this was determined, they placed an epidural and manually dilated my cervix. Luckily that was all it took and I was able to deliver my perfect little man vaginally.
  • I had an unfavorable cervix at the time of my induction, so it took 51 hours from admission to delivery, but I was able to avoid a c-section. Good luck!

I am not sure if worse was what my doctor meant but less successful.
  • thanks everyone! today is my due date and I am scheduled for induction on 10/27. I am 1 cm dilated and I'm worried about having a long induction since baby isn't moving down!
  • Im 39 wk 1 day and not dilated, no signs of it anytime soon. Yesterday I was checked and he said my cervix was posterior, which I know means towards the back. He had a hard time checking me, I actually cried in my car when I was done, because it was so uncomfortable. They say you will spot, well the amount of blood looked like I started my period :( not quite sure if that means mine is unfavorable...
