Questions about Clomid

I started my first round of Clomid on September 27th and I didn't end up ovulating. I called my doctors today to schedule an appointment to see if I needed to go up a dosage for my next cycle and the receptionist said she would leave a note for my Dr. to see if she would just fill my prescription and not actually have me come in. My period is very unpredictable, and could come anytime between this week and the next. The nurse called back saying that my Dr. wants to wait until my period starts to do anything else and the only reason I would go up a dosage is if my period didn't start on time. She said as soon as my period starts I could call them, unless it was a weekend and then I would call on Monday. I was under the assumption that I would be put on a dosage every cycle. This is my first time with all of this and I am just totally confused about everything.

Re: Questions about Clomid

  • I would be frustrated at the fact that you couldn't speak to someone in the weekends are you seeing a specialist or just your regular dr? From what I understand my doctor wouldn't put me on a second round of Clomid without an US to Make sure I didn't develop cysts (which I did and had to skip a month) how do you know you didn't ovulate? Are you being monitored on clomid? It's so hard to deal with all of these things, not to mention it's an emotional roller coaster!

  • I go to my OB. Also forgot to mention that I have PCOS. I have been using OPKs.

  • I'm not super familiar with PCOS other than my sister had it and now has 2 sets of twins :)
I think with having something like PCOS you should be seeing a specialist. I also think the team of nurses that you generally deal with when seeing a specialist know how sensitive your information is and treat you differently than just regular doctor.
  • You should be having monitoring done (ultrasounds and bloodwork) to see if and when you ovulate. I rarely turn an OPK, but know I ovulate based on BBTs and monitoring. I drink too much water everyday to use OPKs with any reliability. Your doctor's approach seems normal given you aren't being monitored. I would recommend seeing an RE to determine what is really going on with your body.

  • When I used the OPKs they didn't work for me! I asked my DR. To monitor my cycle.

I'm so new to all of this, I feel so overwhelmed. I serisouly have no clue what I am doing. :/

  • It's so overwhelming!!!! I literally Google every question I have and get 20 different answers! It never helps. My biggest advice I'd go to Doctor that specializes in infertility. Also buy a cute little Vera Bradley scheduler and write everything down!
  • Please don't take Clomid from an OB.  Get to an RE.  OBs don't do the proper monitoring.  Have you had an HSG and has your husband had an SA?
  • I agree with everyone about seeing a RE. I took 2 rounds of Clomid with my OB before switching to a RE. My OB didn't do any testing... Prescribed me the drugs and then sent me to a testing facility to do follicular testing because the dates fell on a weekend. My RE is open 364 days. This process is all about timing, and they should be working around your cycle, not the other way around. Not to mention, you can only take 6 rounds of Clomid in your lifetime! Please call and get an appointment with a specialist before you take the next round of drugs.
