3rd Trimester

Butt pain after giving birth...please advise.

Hello. I couldn't find the appropriate section to post this question, so I'm posting it here and hope it's ok.

My baby was suppose to be due Oct 28th, but he came Oct 10th (at 37 weeks 1 day). So far he's healthy and is doing well. We were in the hospital for 2 and half days before coming home.

I got 3rd degree tear :( While in the hospital, my right buttock started to feel numb and painful. I thought it was just sore muscles from sleeping on my back and right side too much, plus the bed was uncomfortable too. I'll ask for pain meds and the nurse would give me Tylenol then it'll feel better for a few hours. When it flare up, I couldn't walk or sit but i didn't say anything to the nurse. I still thought it was just sore muscles. It got worse when I got home. It'll hurt so bad to where I couldn't even sit to pee. I was wondering if anyone had this before and what did you do to make it better? I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow, but I'll have to leave a message to the nurse and the nurse will give the message to my doctor. This usually takes a few hours to a day for them to get back to me.

Thanks.

  • Ops, not my buttock but right below my right butt to my leg. Just that area that is sore.

  • No experience but calling your dr is probably your best bet. The only thing I can think of is maybe you're doing too much? After my first LO was born, I felt great and ended up overdoing it. After the second day home, I was miserable. So sore and in so much pain. The only thing that helped was relaxing and doing as little as possible. (I had a 2nd degree tear btw)

With my second I ended up with a 2nd degree tear again, and recover was rough from the get go. Again, the only thing that helped was resting as much as possible.
  • I had a 4th degree tear and can tell you there is so much to watch out for, mainly the beginning of infection. What worked for me was the perinatal bottle with epsom salts in it for the spraying, and I would dab the entire area with a DRY cloth wipe. This way I could monitor blood/tissue/and other colour fluids that could indicate an infection. I also made a sitz bath that I would use regularly. I am allergic to Tylenol so I wasn't allowed to use any of that for pain relief. Because I was so diligent in "down there care" I never had an issue, but it was sore. Very, very sore. Tears in the 3rd and 4th degree are absolutely crippling and are awful to fully heal.
