Can a baby turn breech after 40 weeks?

Hey everyone... I'm 40 weeks and 2 days pregnant. Today I'm feeling kicks on my left side instead of my right... and I'm feeling hiccups in my upper right side instead of my lower left side where I usually feel them. I just made an appointment to go in this afternoon and see my doctor... but... can babies turn breech after 40 weeks? I'm scheduled to be induced this Sunday if nothing happens sooner. He or she has been head down for the longest time! I'm just stressing out now because I made it this far... and I hope the baby hasn't flipped! Has anyone else had something similar happen?

  • I haven't had it happen but I have a friend whose son turned from breech to head down at 38 weeks. She said it was incredibly painful and she thought she was in labor it was that bad. My guess is you'd know if baby turned but I'm glad you're going to your doctor to find out for sure.

  • I would think it would be very difficult for baby to turn and unlikely, but anything is possible I suppose.
  • I feel kicks in the left at times and hiccups all over, baby is still head down thou. They get into funny positions sometimes, but I think its hard to flip again this late. Don't think there is much space for it.
  • I gave birth to my son a week ago at 38weeks, I had gone into Lsbor progressing fine, I was at a 7 when my dr came in and broke my water. She didn't feel his head did and ultra sound and he had turned, completely breech, so I had to have a csection.
  • Thanks everyone for your responses! Just got back from the doctor. I am very thankful! The baby is still head down... but the baby did a 180 sideways and flipped (feet now on left instead of right)... so I'm not completely crazy! However, for anyone else that may be wondering... my doctor did tell me though that baby can change positions up to delivery... so if you ever feel like something is different, ask to be checked via ultrasound before you start laboring or start the process of being induced. Good luck everyone!
