Eggs during pregnancy.

I love my over-easy eggs on the weekends, but haven't had any since we stared TTC in September. Now that I'm 6 weeks preggo I started thinking that I have a loooong way to go before I can eat a runny egg. Some websites say it's fine now. Others say to stay away. I will ask my dr at my first US, but What have you all been doing and does anyone have suggestions ??!!!

Re: Eggs during pregnancy.

  • Honestly I have never heard of this. I am the biggest egg freak on the planet - I eat them pretty much every day, including over easy with toast, and will continue to unless something horrible happens and they start to make me gag. I'm assuming some sources say they're off limits because of the slight risk of salmonella or not being pasteurized?

  • I eat them like that too almost dialy. I didn't know that was bad if your pregnant
  • I ate them my first two pregnancies and will with this one, over easy eggs are the best!
  • I just had my first appointment this morning and my doctor said no runny eggs. Then I asked her not even a little? She said it's important that the white are cooked but if the yolk is a little runny that should be ok. But not to eat them like that all the time.

  • I think it's okay to eat pasteurized eggs runny. Last pregnancy I stayed away (not that hard for me since I actually don't like runny egg yolk at all, it was more an issue of not eating raw cookie dough), but I did once make a pie that used raw eggs and I used pasteurized. Maybe if the white is cooked through then it's okay? But yeah, it's probably not going to hurt to eat them overeasy every once in a while. Personally I wouldn't do it every day.

  • I still eat them over easy. I'm always more concerned about the egg white. Just buy pasteurized and you should be ok.

  • The runny egg precaution is for salmonella. Blah I want my runny egg !!!
  • I've been ordering them over medium for the past couple of years. If the white part is still runny, i'll ask them to cook it more. I'm all about the runny yolk though.
  • Doctors these days are taking the most conservative approach they possibly can, which puts so many foods on the list that it is ridiculous IMO. I'm not really following much of it, or I am, but only intermittently. I think worry is worse than the very small chance of contamination, but that's me.

  • I eat eggs daily, over easy.  I've never been sick from eggs in my life, I feel like its pretty small chance, and i'm enjoying my eggs LOL.
  • Agreed @peregrinefalconx and @aloha5736. I have been eating eggs my entire life and never once had an issue with them. If I limited my diet to only what I was "supposed" to eat during pregnancy, I'd shrivel up into nothing. Honestly, the list of "off limits" food seems to get longer and longer every time. My doctor told me to use common sense, but not stress over every little thing I put in my mouth.
  • Ok thanks ladies !!! I feel better now. I wouldn't want to jeopardize anything but I don't want to drive myself crazy either with all these rules. Xo
