Twins...birth weight. Stressed!

I am 25 weeks and had an ultrasound that my regular doctor could not attend because he was out. This other doctor freaks me out when he says my twins weight are off and I need to be closer monitored. Baby A was 1 lb 5oz and baby B was 1 lb 12oz. I don't know if I should panic about the weight difference....they seem healthy for their gestation.

That's a pretty healthy difference. I wouldn't worry about it. Are your twins mo/mo, mo/di, di/di?

They are Mono/di identical twins. I didn't think 7 oz was much of a difference considering both separately were on track gestationally. However that doctor was stressing me out.

I would call and request a follow up call back from your doctor regarding your recent appt and express your concerns to them. But 7oz is not a big deal. It's not even a deal at all.

I understand that they are monitoring me for TTTS but I just didn't see 7 oz as a big problem being that their as healthy was they are.

Let me preface this by saying I know nothing about how twins grow. That said, if you think of 7oz as a percentage of their total current body weights then it is a more substantial difference. Why don't you just call your regular doctor and have him confirm things for you?

I just had an appointment with my OB and she said not to stress over it. That the other doctor should have explained to me that they were just noting a difference from previous weeks to what they saw today in weight comparison differences. She said if it had been a big concern then they would have had me come back in sooner then my normal every two weeks visit. I mainly am curious if any other twinning moms are experience the differences in twin sizes?

My girls were always within 5oz of eachother. They're di/di identicals.

@twindling I'm gonna use this post as my chance to ask someone (or a few people) who may know, how do you know di/di mono/di and so on? Is it two sacks, two placentas= di/di?

Mine are mono/di(identical) they share a placenta but are separated by a very thin membrane

Mo/mo- one sac, one placenta (always identical)
Mo/di- two sacs, one placenta
(Always identical)
Di/di- two sacs, two placentas
(Roughly 30% chance of them being identical if they are the same sex...cannot be determined via ultrasound unless they are of course boy/girl)

I'm 23 weeks with mono/do twins diagnosed with stage 3 TTTS at 17 weeks with only a 2oz difference between the girls. I ended up having fetoscopic laser ablation on the placenta. The surgery was successful for about 4 weeks but they missed some vessels and now it's back at stage one but role reversed. I wasn't diagnosed based off of weight discrepancy. Did they mention anything about crazy fluid levels? They usually don't point to TTTS with just weight discrepancy the biggest indicator is fluid in each sac. For example my donor had no measurable fluid and my recipient had over 13 cm of fluid in her sac. The weight difference could be more on the side of SIUGR or IUGR not actual twin to twin. Has your OB said anything else about it to you?

My sister had twins girls and they were always about 7oz apart! Even still at 2 years old!
