Lack of appetite postpartum?

Anyone else experiencing this? I have almost no appetite. I think it's a mixture of adjusting hormones, interrupted sleep, and general worry making sure little man is ok at all times, but I am hardly ever hungry. Nothing sounds good, and when I try to eat I can't take more than a few bites without feeling full and having a stomachache. Just curious if anyone else is going through this. I am breastfeeding so I am forcing myself to eat whenever possible because I know baby boy needs all the nutrition I can possibly give him, but it's annoying to feel like I'm constantly forcing it.

Re: Lack of appetite postpartum?

  • Same. While in the hospital, I ate 3 meals a day. When we got home, i hardly ate for 4 days. I think it was partially because I couldn't poop and it was making me sick. But I've increased my water intake and that brought back my appetite to normal.

  • Same here. I only drink and eat once a day. My husband works out of town but when he was home he had to make me eat. Now, I just have to make sure I eat at least once a day. I think it's just adjusting to the new lifestyle. I feel like I have more important things to do than worry about eating and drinking.
  • Im dealing with the same thing!!
  • I had this after my c section the first time. I thought it was just because of that but looks like others are having it too. Mine eventually came back but it took almost two weeks.
  • I have no appetite either. I also wondered if hormones, interrupted sleep and worry has something to do with it. I personally don't even naturally think about eating anymore I make myself eat. I figure it will come back full force at some point.
  • I have a similar issue. One day I'll be starving can't get enough to eat but then the next few days I won't be hungry at all.
  • So glad I'm not the only one! I think the sleep and worry have the most to do with it. If I got an entire night of sleep (ha!) or if I wasn't constantly worried I might have more of an appetite. I just feel like there is so much to worry about. If little man is ok, if I have forgotten to do anything I need to do, if he is going to let me get some sleep tonight, if he is eating enough, etc. We have to remember our bodies are still recovering and have done a complete 180 in the last week or two. It's not like pregnancy where your body gradually changes over a period of 40 weeks. This is completely different and happens so quickly. It will get easier and things will start to normalize again. Hopefully my appetite comes back soon! I don't like worrying that I'm not getting enough nutrition to provide for little man.
  • Same with my first, so DH picked up some Ensure for me until I got my appetite back.
  • I'm having the same thing. In the hospital they brought me 3 meals a day, but I could hardly eat them. Yesterday my husband got up to go to work ( he works nights) and asked me if I had eaten all day. I just started crying because I hadn't and I know that I should have.
  • I was a healthy weight before I got pregnant and now I'm so skinny, it's gross. At almost 3 wks postpartum, I have zero appetite and am forcing myself to eat. My husband picked me up some protein shakes, which may help. I'm hoping my appetite will return as my hormones even out.
