yesterday we had to put down our min pin. unfortunately I had DD (4 months) with me cause we didn't know our dog needed put down. so I was wearing DD while trying to comfort our dog while the relaxation shot was trying to work. our dog was fighting it until DD started petting the dog with me. I thought she was going to do her spuratic movements and accidentally hit the dog. but instead she pet the dog. the dog quit fighting then. I'm happy they had some form of love bond. I'm wondering has anyone else's babies formed bonds of love with the pets yet? if so how have they shown it?
OUR FAMILY is a circle of LOVE! TOGETHER we are UNBREAKABLE! FAMILY is FOREVER! There's a RAINBOW of HOPE after EVERY STORM! And a POT-OF-GOLD at the END of EVERY RAINBOW!
LO loves our dog and vice versa! He's very protective of her in a nonaggressive way when other dogs get near her. During the day he likes to stay within 5 feet of her at all times.
ETA: I'm so sorry for your loss. It's so difficult to lose a pet. We lost our faithful cat of 13 years about a mile th ago. Be thankful for all of the great years you had with them. It doesn't make it any easier though.
I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. That must have been so difficult to do. So glad you were there to comfort your dog, though. One of our dogs passed away while she was sick at the vet when our LO was just a month old. So Jasper probably didn't have a bond with her, but she certainly loved him. The first picture is the only one we have of Khaleesi and Jasper together.
He's definitely built a relationship with our second dog, Odin. Jasper looks for Odin whenever he hears him walking around. Odin loves to lick people, so Jasper is no exception, and now that he's rolling he will roll towards Odin and stick his hand out for him to lick. Odin will sometimes get carried away and sneak a lick on Jasper's face before we can stop him, but Jasper takes it well and braces for the lick now!
Both our dogs would lay in Jasper's nursery waiting for me to finish nursing or changing him.
Just the past week or so my LO has started smiling and giggling like crazy whenever our schnauzer comes into his line of sight, and he will track him whatever he does. SO cute! The dog thinks he's too cool to hang out with a baby and ignores him, except when its thunder storming. Then he wants to be right next to LO
I'm so sorry for the loss of your dog. I lost two of my cats within a year, its very hard. I'm glad that you were able to see the bond between your baby and your dog tho.
Our one remaining cat likes to be near our LO. Nothing too overt in displays of affection, but he likes to be nearby wherever the baby is, and likes to come over and 'help' with floor mat or tummy time. There have been some headbutts and once he did bathe LO for about a minute. There is definitely a relationship there, its just low key right now. I think it will be more obvious when LO is older
Both of our dogs love our LO. The snaller of the two was pretty aloof for a while and has recently gotten very attached. He tries to sleep as close to him as possible and is essentially on his arm all day. LO pulls hair, sometimes (he's getting the hang of open hand pets though) and the dogs have never even gotten upset about it. They just let it go and try to cuddle after.
I'm sorry about your loss. It is great that got got to see that bond and know that pup moved on being loved.
So sorry for your loss. Pets are such a special element to the household. We lost out Pitt bull Loki about a year and a half ago. He and DS had such an incredible bond. DS would lay in Loki's dog bed at the end and cuddle with him and ask to take pictures with him. It was so sweet. His loss was so hard on us, still is. Toby on the other hand just stays at a safe distance with LO, though always wants to be around. He and DS have a good bond, though not as close as with Loki.
The second pick is Loki with DS when he was about a 6 weeks old. He loved to sleep near him and watch over him.
I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your furry friend. There are few things sadder than having to say goodbye to a pet.
In response to your question, my dog and daughter are already fast friends. Luna always wants to sit near our LO and lick her face and hands. We've found if we try to take a pic of LO and Luna is nearby, she just comes over and photobombs the picture. Luna can't fathom that we wouldnt want her in a picture lol.
So sorry to hear about your puppy. Mine likes to lick little ones feet and hands and face. But kind of keeps a distance during the day. She'll sit next to us when I nurse or if we're just on the couch, and is protective of LO when other dogs or people come near her. I'm thinking when DD gets more mobile, our dog will get more interested in her
I'm so so sorry for your loss. There's nothing quite like losing a family pet. That must have been such a sweet moment to witness between him and your LO. I hope it eased the transition for you as well
Our black lab just really discovered the baby lol. Yesterday he got up on the couch next to us and started "punching" her legs with his nose and pulling on he fabric of her pajamas. Then he tried to flop into my lap like he normally does. We're going to have to work to teach him that she's fragile lol. But he's always kind of checked on her in her rock and play while she's sleeping. He kind of noses about as if he's making sure things are in order and then goes about his business.
