Best Prenatal's & Working out

Hi Everyone,

So I am only 4 weeks and 6 days into my pregnancy. So I'm super new to this pregnant thing. I went out and I bought "New Chapter- Perfect Prenatal" I will say since I started taking them on Friday I am less tired and I can make it through the work day without a nap. Is this a good prenatal? Is there one that anyone would recommend?

Also, I have read a ton of threads about working out. I have been working with a coach for awhile and have a cardio and lifting plan. The new plan is geared for pregnant women. What have you heard about lifting lightly during pregnancy? My first obgyn appointment is next wednesday, but I have heard he is super strict on not allowing patients to workout at all during pregnancy, which is a total "NO NO" to me. I have heard that it is healthier for a woman to continue her normal routine and I am scared I am going to be bullied by an old school obgyn.

Thanks ahead of time,

Fran

  • These are definitely questions for your OB. Bring your prenatals to your appointment if you want to know if the specific ones that you have are appropriate. If you are concerned about being bullied by your provider or already don't feel comfortable trusting his advice regarding exercise or anything else, it may be time to find a new OB. You are certainly early enough in your pregnancy where this is still an option.

  • agreed with PP. asking your OB would be your best bet for these question.
i personally like the Materna prenatals. they've been working really well for me. as for getting in exercise, i just go for walks every now & then. i work as a server so i spend a lot of time on my feet as it is!
  • As far as I know, light exercise is recommended for otherwise healthy women. I had problems in the first tri because I was always so nauseous but I work out regularly now.

I would ask your OB but switch providers if you feel like you are being shamed.
  • As far as prenatals go when i was pregnant with ds I had to have a prescription for ones with more iron.
I think both of these are great questions for your ob, they will know best.
Start keeping a list of questions you think of and bring it to your appointments. That's what I did with ds and helped a lot!

  • I take the Target brand, Up&Up, regular prenatals. As far as working out, I was encouraged to continue my normal routine until otherwise told. I figure skate (competed up until this past April), but between my recent wedding and taking on a second job, I've cut back my ice time substantially. Dr approved skating, warned me of the repercussions of taking a nasty spill so I'm not jumping much. As far as hitting the gym, whatever I was doing before I got pregnant is ok.

  • Ladies,

Thank you for the response. I will go to the OB appointment and if I am uncomfy I will make a change. His office manager told me that I would have to stop all my typical workouts and told me to cancel my gym membership. I am going to wait til I talk to the doctor. Also, I appreciate the prenatal recommendations. These seem pretty good but I am so early on my symptoms literally just started. I have read on quite a few pages that you can do the kind of things you did before because it is better for mommy and baby. I appreciate the feedback and I am going to start a list of questions.

    Thanks,

    Fran

That's just hooey. All the recommendations say to exercise if you feel up to it, which you obviously do.

  • It is important to stay active (if you can) and nothing wrong with some exercise ! As long as you're feeling up to it ... As for your prentals , I am on the same ones as you , Theyre amazing. I've done a lot of research on them and they seem to be a very good choice for me.

    Congrats!
  • The new chapter ones made me feel funky. I take the raw vitamin code prenatals and an additional iron supplement (anemic).
Regarding working out, I read that women who did before should continue to do so with caution of course. If you feel up to it and can then do. ;;)
I have been thinking about starting but feel exhausted. Taking walks in sneakers is as far as I've gotten.
