1st Trimester

Almost fainted .. Tunnel vision

I was at work yesterday standing at a cash register and all of a sudden I felt super sick. Hot and dizzy and my vision slowly went black. I could barely see the customer in front of me. I stepped backwards and almost hit the coffee brewer. I know dizziness is common but the blackening vision was scary stuff. is this common? I just got all my first prenatal test results back and everything was great. I just entered week 14. Any feedback is appreciated. ❤️

Re: Almost fainted .. Tunnel vision

  • I fainted at 7 weeks. You should definitely call your OB in case they want you to come in. It is super scary but actually really common, a lot of women discover they're pregnant after fainting. Since you didn't pass out what you're describing sounds to me like vertigo, which I understand to be common in the second trimester. I'm not a doctor though, so please do reach out to yours. You may have been dehydrated and likely had a surge or a drop in bloodsugar. Make sure you're drinking lots of water and eating every 3 hours or so, avoiding foods that are high in sugar.

Sorry you went through this, I know how scary it is! I describe the blackening tunnel vision as a feeling of impending doom. It feels awful. I'll say it one more time - call your doctor!!

  • You should contact your dr. While this is normal for some women (including me) it's not normal for others. Every woman and pregnancy are different and this could have have happened for many, many different reasons.

  • This happened to me at work a few days ago! Exact same symptoms. My doc says it's common and to stay hydrated and eat every few hours.
  • Happened to me at 8 weeks. I actually passed out. That morning I had very little to eat and nothing to drink. My lower back and belly were hurting and I felt it coming.
I'm also anemic so maybe it had something to do with it.
Also standing for a long time may or may not be a good thing. Try to rest when you can and let your doc know.

  • This happened to me! Has a couple of times now, I'm 12.5 weeks and I almost passed out standing in line at subway today. I find that if I leave my legs locked for too long without moving, it happens. I try to shift my weight when I'm standing for long periods of time, even if I look fidgety to some people. It's the only thing I do that helps me not pass out.
  • This happened to me whilst at work too! It was such a hot morning and I hadn't eaten a great deal and I started to feel so dizzy, I was trying to get outside for fresh air but after a few steps my vision went black and I woke up a few minutes later with all my work friends looking down at me.. embarrassing haha! Doctor just told me to make sure I eat small meals regularly and drink plenty of water :) I was 7 weeks at the time.
