Anterior placenta?

I have anterior placenta and my little man is breech, I wondered if there was any connection, as have read on other site a lot of other women saying the exact same thing!

I am 35 weeks, so there is still time for him to turn, but unfortunately we are having to be monitored every few days to check he's okay, as growth has decreased, so having growth scans and placenta checks, but if growth continues to decrease we will have to be induced at 37 weeks, which means he only has 2 weeks to turn. I don't think he's going too and I am trying everything!

of course will have a section- I just want him to be healthy, just this is my first pregnancy and I'd love VG.

  • I also have an anterior placenta, and baby has been head down for weeks now- I agree with PP, I don't think there's a connection.

  • Ditto - I have anterior placenta and baby isn't breech, either. Have not heard of that connection before.
  • Agree with pp, check out spinning babies. I have an anterior placenta and baby is head down and engaged (I am 35 weeks + 3 days).
  • I have an anterior placenta and our little guy is breech yet, but I don't think there is a connection. We are 34 weeks and the midwife I saw Friday isn't concerned one bit and honestly, I'm not either. She said it should happen by 37 weeks and if he doesn't flip on his own by then, they would try to manually do it around 38 weeks.

A lot can happen in 2 weeks and he very well may flip on his own by then. If not, there are ways to help him.
  • LOL, I just realised the post I was looking at was 'anterior and breech' probably why everyone was saying that they are the same!!!
I was looking at spinning babies earlier, I have been doing the pelvic tilt, also trying popping the frozen ice on the top, to get his head to move away, BUT I am sure that wouldn't work because of my placenta.
Have any of you felt reduced movements or sometimes you feel as if you can't feel movements? I spoke to my midwife about them, and then a doctor after monitoring and they said that I may not be able to feel movments because of the placenta? It still doesn't make me feel confident though, especially now I've been told growth has decreased! Maybe I am just a worrier!
  • I was wondering the same thing, but my Google research told me there was no connection. There is a connection between a low lying placenta and breech babies.

  • I actually read that you're less likely to have a breech baby with an anterior placenta BUT your chances of a back to back baby are slightly increased. 35 Weeks- there's still time for it to move and flip. Have some time on all fours and just relax when you can! DS was breech til the end. My DD flipped at 36.5. This one is head down. These kids have their own agendas :)

I am 37 weeks and baby is back-to-back! No idea there was a connection w anterior placenta!

@acastle94 I did experience feeling less movement for most of my pregnancy because of anterior placenta. I was shocked at how active baby was at my anatomy scan. She was kicking like a ninja and I didn't feel a thing. Now that baby is almost due, I feel her all the time. I think at this point, my baby is too big to be cushioned by placenta. If you ever get worried, def do kick counts. That always helps ease my mind.
  • My first two where both anterior placentas. Neither where breech both where head down early too. This one is posterior and the difference in movement is crazy. This one deforms my belly the others I felt but not like this. I see it more too. Other than that no differences.
  • Anterior placenta and she's head down. I'm 34 weeks. I can't imagine not having it to block some of her kicks.. I'd probably throw up all over myself.
  • Almost 35 weeks and 5 days with anterior placenta and baby's head has been down for a while now. He dropped this past weekend and since dropping I have felt him move much more. Like PP I was surprised at how much he was moving during ultrasounds because I couldn't feel very much of it.
  • No connection. I had an anterior placenta with my last pregnancy and baby was head down. As suggested, maybe try spinning baby's.. But no guarantees.

  • Only thing anterior placenta is linked to is that it can develop into placenta preva later on in pregnancy. At least thats what I was told.

I hated my anterior placenta because I felt like it was robbing me of feeling baby kick early on. Now I think its protecting me from more painful kicks!
  • I've heard great things about acupuncture for breech babies!
  • Posterior babies are more likely with an anterior placenta. This is my 2nd baby with an anterior placenta and 2nd baby that is posterior but head down. The baby tends to want to face the placenta thus the connection there. I pushed out a posterior baby last time and would rather avoid that this time around so I am seeing a chiro and doing spinning babies.

Either breech or posterior, try spinning babies or a chiro to help.
  • My first was anterior and head down. I definitely had limited sensation. I didn't really understand what everyone was talking about regarding movement until this pregnancy where I have a ninja baby within.
  • I have an anterior placenta but bubbas head has been down since about 30 weeks. I recommend you look into spinning babies.com, acupuncture and there is also some exercises you can do to help turn bubba.
Being a FTM i was annoyed having anterior placenta because i didn't feel bub kick properly until 21ish weeks!
  • Mine is anterior and she's been head down for as long as I can remember. She is sunny side up, though, so hopefully she will turn towards my back, but I don't see that happening.
