Last night around 6:30, I started having strong, regular contractions. They lasted about 45 seconds each and were nearly exactly ten minutes apart. They were strong enough that I had to stop talking and breathe through them, and they didn't not stop or lessen with food, drink, walking, or changing position. This went on for the next 3.5 hours and just STOPPED.
I called my OB, who was on call, and he explained that I'm probably going through prodromal labor, an early stage of labor where contractions help to dilate the cervix, but don't really intensify or last. He said they definitely didn't sound like Braxton Hicks, and that I could probably expect for it to happen again, possibly over several days before the "real deal" starts. He said to think of it as trying to get the engine of a car to turn over - sometimes it takes a few tries before the motor takes over, and that it's fairly common. I'm about 37.5 weeks now and this is our 4th baby and I have never experienced this before! On one hand it's pretty cool that my body is gearing up, but on the other hand it was a bit exhausting and nerve wracking. Anyone else go through this with past or current pregnancy?
Re: Prodromal Labor - anyone else experience this?
I know someone who had it for several weeks though, so don't get too nervous!
@BlondeMomma92 I'm glad it's kind of predictable for me so far! I had a shorter episode last night, but it started at 6:30 just like the night before! Since it just started for me, I can't really say that it won't get worse, but just knowing what it is and that it happens made it easier to take last night!
