NT SCAN

So we got our result and they are 1:67 not very good. I know these test can be wrong. Anyone have experience with a low score. What was the outcome? We go to genetic counseling Thursday and will probably do the next set of blood test. My doc said not to worry but it's hard not to

Re: NT SCAN

  • I don't have experience with this but I just wanted to say good luck and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for u :-)
  • Loading the player...
  • The NT scan is only positive if it's a high score. Meaning about 2.0... was your score over 2?
Usually is the scan looks abnormal they will do additional al bloodwork. Don't panic yet

I have a friend who had a 3.7 nuchal fold and all genetic testing came back normal.

    Good luck!
  • Ours was 2.11. Thanks hoping everything turns out ok
  • The NT scan and quad screen blood tests are not diagnostic, and therefore do not yield positive or negative results. 1:67 is higher than it would be based on simply your age so you will likely be advised to do a diagnostic test like cvs or amniocentesis to get an actual positive or negative result.

Keep in mind that a 1:67 chance (of whatever abnormality that related to...I assume Down Syndrome? But usually other trisomy disorders are also tested for at the same time and I received the probability of each one separately) still means that there's a 66:67 chance that everything is fine.

    Good luck with your testing.
  • I do not have personal experience with this, I get my nt scan in 4 weeks. I do know 2 people that were told that their babies had markers for downs and they both delivered healthy babies with no problems.
  • Just went through the NT scan screening. I assume you did the ultrasound and blood work associated with the NT screening test?

Your results are a combination of the ultrasound in which they are want to see the nasal bone and a fluid measurement of less than 3. Did they see the nasal bone? I swear, I just did this test and they said below 3 NOT 2.

Then they check your blood for protein measurement for downs and two other trisomy syndromes. The combination of your proteins PLUS your age PLUS the results of the ultrasound yield low, moderate, or high.

I got my ultrasound results in person: yes nasal bone and fluid 1.4.  They called today and and for the trisonomy results i was 1 in 10,000 and for downs I was 1 in 991. If I were 9 points higher I would have been "low" but because I am 9 points below 1000 considered moderate.

Now at the same time, I had the DNA free test (some times referenced as Harmony). She said because I came back "moderate" even though my results are good, they would recommend the DNA free test which I already did. Point is, research this test, I assume it will be your next step and don't worry too much.  You didn't share what your 1 of 67 was for - which syndrome.
