oh baby

anyone else have periods of time where baby is less active? mine is usually pretty active a few times a day and usually at night before bed he's moves around a bit and I feel kicks. last night I didn't feel any that I can't remember, and just want some reassurance before I go to the hospital, I'm giving him a few more hours to move before I do

Re: oh baby

  • I have had days where LO won't kick for 8 hours or more. The little stinker more than makes up for it once I lie down and relax. If you are super concerned try drinking some ice water or orange juice and putting you feet up on the couch. I know when I have been more active LO tends to be less active. Also if you are super concerned call the on call labor and delivery at your hospital. They are there to answer questions and reassure you :)

  • Their patterns change, especially when they are growing. If they are growing they may sleep more and be still for longer periods even for a few days. I would say give it a day or two and see. My LO similarly has specific times of increased movement. Last week, she didnt move at all when I lied down for bed, the next night she was back at it.

  • I JUST had this...my LO didn't move almost AT ALL for like 3-4 days. Finally yesterday she was back in action!
  • Try drinking some REALLY cold water or putting a small speaker next to your tummy and play music. That always works for me when little is being frustrating. That being said my little one has had days where movement is constant and days where I didn't feel anything for 12+hrs

  • From what I've read, babies in utero just have active days and days where they relax more, just like kids and adults.  There's also a good chance that you aren't noticing his kicks as often because you are becoming used to it (at least I feel like I am).

  • I think it might be better to err on the side of caution, if you're really worried.
The stats my doctor told me were at least 10 kicks in a 3-hour period. He also advised that baby will still sleep for about 40 minutes out of every hour at this point.
He said ANY time I didn't have 10 kicks in 3 hours to at least call.
Babies are more active right after meals, so you might try eating something a little more substantial than normal to see if that gets him/her going.
  • You can also try putting an ice pack on your belly. I've done that a few times to convince LO to move away from an uncomfortable position. I just wouldn't leave it on for any grand length of time. You could even try eating or drinking something with a bit of sugar or caffeine to get them moving.
  • Unless you're lying down the whole time you are probably putting baby to sleep with your movement. I essentially never feel baby from 7:00 to 5:00, the hours I'm at school. As soon as I get home at put my feet up, it's ninja kick party time.
  • Funny I should read this right now. I actually just drank a large glass of OJ and am doing a kick count as I hadn't felt movement in about 4 hours. Just sat down 20 minutes ago and already felt 4 kicks and I feel very reassured.

  • My baby is not a mover, hasn't been the entire pregnancy. He moves when he feels like it or when I make him mad (that's what I tell myself)
BUT, lately, I will lay my hands on my tummy and I'll feel a twich- it's not a kick because those make my tummy jiggle it's soft enough that only my hands feel it.
It's possible baby is moving- just not hard enough for you to feel it. Maybe you can lay down and just rest your hands on your stomach (I'm laying on my back when this happens)
Baby is probably just resting .
  • Chocolatey poptart always makes mine super excited..
  • @macattack15 I have gotten super stressed out about the same thing (many days) and I always end up feeling movement eventually. I am sorry you are stressed though and hope you are reassured soon.

It sounds like from PPs that cold + sugar will do the trick, so I think it calls for a reason to eat more ice cream ;-)
