Thank you stomach virus! (AW)

I'm 37+2 and I just wanted to go on the record to thank my stomach virus for not only making me feel like death and unable to keep food in on either end, but for dehydrating me to the point where I had intense unproductive contractions every 2-5 minutes for over 7 hours last night! I went into L&D and was put on an IV and given something for the nausea, but it was the opposite of fun. At least the Mets won.  Anyway, I opted to go home after no change in cervix after all that time and the IV made me feel human again. I am glad baby still gets to cook, and contractions have ceased for the time being, but I am struggling to keep any fluids down and am afraid I will end up in the ER with dehydration again. Every joint in my body is aching and at the risk of too much sarcasm this stomach virus is really a dream come true for an already miserable pregnant woman! I hope everyone is feeling much better than I am!

Also a fun tidbit: they were training a new nurse and after the first nurse did a cervical exam they asked if she could do one as well.  I'm pretty easy going so I said sure.  Well apparently she didn't look at what she was doing or she thought my cervix was in my butt... I yelled "wrong hole!"

  • Loading the player...
  • Good luck and feel better! This is horrible! My son has a stomach virus that I am praying stays away from me!
  • Sorry you're sick, that sucks! Glad you were able to go home at least. And thanks for the early morning giggle, although I'm sure hte rest of your ordeal was no laughing matter.
  • Thanks ladies... was able to get some Gatorade in this morning but input is definitely not keeping up with output!

Somehow I still had a sense of humor enough to just look at my husband and laugh!
  • That stinks.. I'm sorry you're feeling bad. I had the stomach bug a few months ago and it sucked. Luckily for me it only lasted 36 hours. Hope you can stay hydrated... I also laughed at the "wrong hole" scenario. Definitely doesn't make anything easier! So annoying. Get better soon!
My DH and I are expecting our first child! A boy.. we're thrilled :)http://www.thebump.com/profiles/kestes946/settings/avatar/index# BabyFruit Ticker BabyName Ticker Anniversary Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I had one that lasted almost two weeks at the beginning of the second trimester. It was awful and I couldn't imagine having it this far along. I hope you start feeling better soon.
  • I know how you feel, @dapoint23! I got the stomach flu at the end of september and felt the exact same way. What was even more lovely was the first person I called (emergency dr. number) said no need to worry (even though I had puked and had diarrhea probably 15 times in 5 hours). I called when my regular doc was open and they sent me to L&D.

Fortunately no one tried to check my butt for dilation and effacement.

Luckily I felt all better before delivering our daughter this morning!

There's an old school butt baby bump joke to be made here I'm sure, but I can't think of one.

Congratulations on baby and I'm glad you're feeling better!
  • Given that you had your baby four days later, I would say it probably wasn't a "virus" and was actually your body cleaning itself out before labor. I'm going through the same thing right now. I've read that it can last for weeks though. :-S
  • Oh I feel your pain. I just got food poisoning on Sunday. Went to the hospital and got iv and got sent home. On top of that I'm still fighting a horrible cold and cough going on 2weeks now. They gave me nothing for that. I'm miserable and missing school work and work work.

Sorry you had a rough go recently, and congrats on the delivery! Buuutttt most importantly, I'm NOT happy the Mets won, so boo on that.

ETA: I am going to be on the safe side and say I AM kidding about the Mets being the most important bit. It goes without saying, or so you'd think, but TBG have been unpredictable lately.

    .....go Cubs!
  • Uggggh I am so sorry you went through that!   I just had the nasty ick a week and a half ago...same kind of thing.  SO not fun.  Same deal had to go to L&D was severely dehydrated and contracting, etc.  I couldn't even keep water down it was awful!   Did your docs tell you what it might be?   They think I may have had Norovirus.   Fingers crossed no one else has to deal with this I hope you feel much better soon.

And OMG about that nurse!!!!   "Wrong Hole!"  I about died reading that lol bless your heart!
