Taking baths

What's the rule on taking baths while you're pregnant I hear everything from a warm one is ok to not to do it at all. Feeling like its the only thing that will make me feel better

Re: Taking baths

  • I've heard nothing above ~100 degrees because it raises the body temp too much.

  • Last time I just didn't because to me, if it's not a hot bath it's not worth it.

  • That's how I felt during my last one too but I'm just so bloated & so exhausted I need something to relax.

Yep. Showers all the way for me from now on. No reason to waste perfectly good time on a less than great bath.
  • I miss baths already :( during winter I sometimes take them every night :(

  • I was told that as long as you don't turn red and aren't fully submerged (shoulders and arms out) for the majority of the time, that they are ok.

But that's the best kind of bath!!!

I personally don't like to be that hot (I am always hot when I'm pregnant which might be why). But my hubby likes them like that.

  • The main reason they talk about that is that they don't want you to be in a sauna or hot tub. If you know for sure that your bath is cooler than a hot tub, then you're probably fine. Skin turning red like PP said is a good indicator that it's too hot. I love taking baths while I'm pregnant! I don't need them to be crazy hot, though.

  • I think a hot shower is just as dangerous as a hot bath, maybe worse. A bath only gets cooler as it sits but a shower or hot tub will continually stay warm. That said, I say bathe and shower away! Just make sure you aren't too warm.

  • Took hot baths through both of my last pregnancies and if I can get this new house's water heater to stop being a PITA then I'll be doing it again this time. I wish I had a tub where I could fully submerge but alas either my legs or my shoulders are out. I turn it to full hot and enjoy the relief it gives my aching back.

  • I got a bath thermometer my first pregnancy. I felt pretty comfy at body temp
  • I've been taking lots of baths, it helps some with te backache and the insomnia. I just keep it cool enough that I don't start to sweat. I love them steaming hot, but I'll take what I can get for now. :)
  • I took baths all through my first pregnancy.....until I got stuck one night in the tub and couldn't get up.  DH wasn't home so I had to massage my baby bump to get the little sweetie to move out of my ribs so I could get up.  LOL!  After that, I only took baths when DH was home.
