To start decorating for Christmas!? I feel like I'm going to start earlier than normal this year since baby boy could be here any time in December. Any other mamas who love Christmas even thinking about this yet?
We get our tree and decorate the weekend after Thanksgiving and will do the same this year!
Same. We do it every black Friday and while we decorate the tree, we watch Home Alone and drink cocoa or hot cider. My mother has offered to help this year so we may take her up on that depending on how big I am.
We get our tree the day after thanksgiving. I'm usually the one that puts the lights on it but I'm afraid this year I may need some help. Thinking of asking my stepmom because she has the same level of Christmas tree perfectionism that I do. Ps I can't wait!!
We also do it the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I'm due Dec. 2nd though so unless baby has arrived before then I doubt we'll be doing the same. May have to move it to the weekend after

That's an awesome tradition!! Can't wait until LO is old enough to start our own family traditions!
@Mother0fDragons, the little one in my case is my husband! He loves that movie so when we moved in together, we decided to watch it the first year. And then it just became a thing! Our least forced tradition.
I usually like to wait until the first weekend of December to start decorating, but last year I started putting up a couple items a day just after our city's Santa Claus Parade which is mid-November. (We have Thanksgiving in October here in Canada, so if I decorated after Thanksgiving, I'd have Christmas stuff up before Halloween!) I think I'll start decorating after the parade again this year so I don't end up over-doing it. I like to give everything a really thorough cleaning before I decorate too, so it often ends up being a LOT of work!
I'm a bit of a Christmas crazy lady. I love Christmas time so much and adore my decorations. So I usually decorate first week of November, and leave them up til January is over!!! Haha. I'm a rare breed though. My mom waits til after her birthday (nov 25) and cleans it up New Years Day.
It's really up to you OP. If you want to be a part of the decorations and are afraid you can't partake because of possible reasons, I see no reason as to why you can't decorate early. Shoot, skip Halloween decorations and go straight to Christmas. I would if it weren't for everyone else in my house. Plus I also love to decorate for the fall/ Halloween/ Thanksgiving. I have plenty of help at home to put up the tree and decorations the day after Thanksgiving as we normally do.
I would usually wait until after Thanksgiving, but being due December 11, I'm just worried that those last couple weeks will be too crazy, so I may start before Thanksgiving. *gasp* I definitely don't want to skip decorating, so I want to be sure it's done before LO comes!
I was going to decorate for Halloween but have been too tired. I'm actually debating starting to decorate for Christmas next weekend!! My original plan was to wait until after Halloween to start putting up Christmas decorations.

You and me both! I'm taking hubs to the mountains for a belated birthday trip and we will be coming home on November 1st. I'm seriously considering getting our tree then and putting it up the first week of November. I'm SO excited!!!!
I'm going to procrastinate for as long as possible. I have to rearrange the living room to somehow fit the recliner AND tree! This is also our first Christmas living together so we don't have any decorations and I'm not lookong forward to spending money on that! Sorry for my bahumbug post. Lol
If we even bother decorating, it'll only be a tree and stockings and I won't want them up until after thanksgiving. But if you really enjoy it and your household is up for it, do it whenever you feel ready.
And I only say that because I'M NOT READDDDDDYYYYYYYYYYY.
I love Christmas but I have absolutely no idea how or when I'm going to get my decorations up ... or how/when we'll get a tree ... or when we'll have time for Christmas shopping.
Just let me crawl into a hole instead ... or maybe I can hire someone to do it for me.

Don't spend all that money on Christmas decorations! As a new married couple you'll find that as the years go by you accumulate and gather things. But if you do it all at once it will be expensive and overwhelming. Our first year the only thing we spent money on was our Christmas tree decorations and lights. And since then I've picked up little things here and there as they go on sale at Michael's or hobby lobby. Now I have a whole collection!
^^^ this. Normally I'd suggest going out on the 26th to get cheap decorations for next year buy you should keep that money for the new addition as well. I think if you have a tree with cheap lights and ornaments and a stocking for the LO, that'll be great and enough for your first year.

This is true!
My mom has an extra pre lit tree for us so that saves tons. I just want to keep up the tradition of handmade stockings and know that's going to be a bit pricey.
I totally agree with not doing all Christmas decorations in one go. We have spent the last 2-3 years adding to our collection in the days/weeks right after Christmas. We shop all the big sales on Christmas stuff for the following year -- ornaments, lights, decorations, etc. You save TONS. That first year was minimal (we had a Charlie Brown tree with only a couple ornaments and one string of lights) but we've been able to grow our collection since then and we haven't felt it break the bank.

I don't know what kind of stockings you mean by handmade, but I considered my family's plain stockings that we decorated with spare buttons and glitter glue to be handmade. You might consider something cheap like that for your first Christmas together to keep costs down. You can always do something more elaborate next year!

I give you permission to start now!! You can decorate for me! We are moving sometime around Christmas/New Year, so I'm not going to be decorating.
Totally agree don't spend a bunch of money on Christmas decorations! Trust me, when my husband and I had our first Christmas the only thing we bought was a fake tree so we didn't have to keep buying them (even though I love real ones lol) and all the decorations we got were from the dollar store. Check out cheap places like that first, you'd be surprised what you can get that makes your house feel so warm and inviting for Christmas. We however we not decorate outside our house (base housing, didn't feel like it) and now we live in an apartment so all our decorating is inside =]

If you catch the dollar store or the Target one spot at the very beginning of the season you can get some super cute stuff!! And last year I got this super nice hanging sign that is half my size at Michael's on sale for $7 at the end of November! When you aren't pressured to buy it all at once you can find the best deals!
I will be the odd ball here and say that we will not be decorating this year (and I am kind of excited!) Hubs insists on a live tree (a family tradition of theirs) and I refused to clean up needles while being THAT pregant. With a 12/24 due date, the task of taking down Christmas decorations seemed daunting so we will be enjoying everyone elses!
Just talking about Christmas makes me crazy excited!!!!! We usually put up the tree and everything the Saturday after thanksgiving. This is the plan for this year too as my csection will be the following week.
I sound totally crazy saying this but thinking I will decorate the middle of November, or even right as I take Halloween down, for the inside that is. My reasoning is because I'm having twins and they come earlier then singletons, and I don't want to have a surprise arrival and then be too exhausted or have my hands full to decorate after. I typically am not a "jump the gun" type of decorator (typically do it the weekend after thanksgiving) but this year - turkey day and my husband are just going to have to get used to some Santa's and Ho's coming a little early this year.
I've been thinking all this time that I'd hold off. I tried to make decorations stupidly simple last year with DS being two months old at the time. I normally decorate Dec 1st but that is my due date and after talking to my OB this morning, I won't make it that long.
So I'm completely rethinking my stance and totally decorating early, possibly as early as the first of November.
I am totally open to decorating any time after November 1st, we normally wait until Thanksgiving weekend. It is really because I am excited for Christmas and the baby is due before Christmas and so it is probably more distraction than anything!
I will be putting up Christmas decorations at the beginning of November! My original due date was December 11th but I'm having twins, so as of right now we have a c section scheduled for November 28th. And I honestly don't think I'm going to make it that far into November...so the earlier the better as far as decorating!!! It may drive my husband crazy but I can't go without my Christmas tree and decorations up!!!
We always decorate thanksgiving weekend but this year we will start in the begining of november. I am due dec 12 and will just be to pregnant to wait that long. I will miss our tradition of getting a little tipsy while we decorate!
My baby shower is November 7th & after that we'll be doing a couple weeks of baby prep then we'll probably decorate the weekend after thanksgiving. I'm due December 9th so the decor has to be up before then for DS sake as it will probably be the last fun thing we do with him as our only LO ! I'm super excited !!!

I did pick up a 4ft tall snowman for the doorway after Christmas.
This is our second Christmas together and we do not have enough decorations that it causes any type hassle.
I am hoping to get outdoor lights this year
