Anyone heard of Hook Effect?? 6 weeks 2 days.

So I'm 6 weeks 2 days and tested just to make sure I'm still pregnant lol! I noticed the test line was a little lighter than it had been so I freaked out and googled it and I ran across several things talkin about the hook effect. It says that once you reach about 6 weeks for HCG gets so high that the test line begins to fade. To mix your urine with half water 1:1 ration and test again. I tried it. My line was darker! Made me feel better but how weird is that!! image

    I work in a lab where we do testing for other things using test systems like a pregnancy test, and the high dose hook effect is totally a thing! Basically the test attaches itself to proteins, and then the protein attaches to the indicator strip, which creates this sandwich that gives the color change. If there's too much protein, you have the proteins attaching at the indicator strip without having the other 'slice of bread', which means you have an open face sandwich - no color change!

    I think hook effect mostly happens at around 8 to 9 weeks- but definitely step away from the pee sticks! I totally know how u feel wanting to make sure ur still preggers but peeing on sticks at 6 weeks only adds to the confusion :-)

    I noticed if I take a test in the am with FMU than my line is lighter (not faint, just a bit lighter than the control line) but with 2nd morning urine my test was super dark (I checked this twice)... after noticing this I stopped testing. I was so panicked but now that I have seen a super dark test result I know I should stop. lol

    Also put down the the thermometer along with the pee sticks. Temping had me on edge every time it dipped for my first pregnancy. This time I'm alot more relaxed! Good luck at avoiding temptation of the pee stick ladies ;)
