Making sure I will qualify for FMLA at the job I started at the end of July is definitely the ONLY thing stopping us from starting TTC right now! As it is we'd planned on starting in November (but I won't ovulate until the end of November). I know it's not that long to wait, but I also know getting KU on the first try is pretty unlikely.
Anyways, my question is ... if I got super lucky this month and baby came before I was at the company one year, could I possibly use PTO until I've been there a year and then be eligible for FMLA leave? I don't really expect anyone to know the answer, just thought I'd put it out there in case! Obviously the baby fever is pretty insane right now that the idea of waiting one more month seems so too much to bare!
Feel free to use this thread to vent about having to wait to qualify for FMLA and/or maternity leave.... I know a lot of you ladies are in my same boat!

Re: Waiting for FMLA...
I can identify a bit. There are 4 people at my job, so I will never qualify for FMLA. A few months ago, I bit the bullet and asked my boss what our maternity leave policy is. I was fully expecting unpaid, but wanted to be sure they'd hold my job. They will, and will let me use accrued PTO, which is great! My concern is that she seemed really stuck on "you can go part time if you want!" I don't want, because I can't. Hopefully it won't be an issue.
Daycare around here starts at 6 weeks, and I expect that's when future LO will go. It sucks, but I am a big believer in quality daycare as a positive environment for kids, so we'll survive. My job is extremely flexible (all time is flex, within reason) so it will be great once I have kids in that way.
I'd go ask HR what their policy is! It's possible they'd hold your position and let you use PTO, but every job is different.
It definitely is a bummer for the baby fever - but waiting can leave you with less stress when the baby is finally here!
Like the PP, I recommend going to your job's HR department and talking to them about your options. They are the experts on this type of thing, and will be able to point you in the right direction!
