Let down buttons - I'm confused!

Can someone explain the button in the Medela Pump In Style Advance. I don't quite understand the 2 settings and how they work and when to use each.

Re: Let down buttons - I'm confused!

  • The let down button is used when after the 1st 2 minutes you don't have milk coming out. If you do, don't worry about using it.
  • The suction starts on the rapid setting to simulate the way the baby sucks to get the milk flowing. I watch the bottles and once I see milk dropping in I push the letdown button which switches the suction to stronger but less fast, like a baby does once milk is flowing and they're sucking/swallowing. For me the letdown always happens before the 2 min are up and the pump switches by itself. Anyway, that's how I use that button...

  • I agree with @klirwin82. I press it when I see milk dripping into the bottle which for me is before the 2 minutes.
