What can I do for a POUNDING headache?

I have had a headache for 3 days straight!  :(
At first I felt like maybe it was just the loud environment that I was in in, but then it wouldn't go away...I took a tylenol and nothing. If I'm still, it's fine, but the second I stand up or do anything that requires a little bit of strength, my head just starts pounding and my heart beating hard right along with it...
I'm a migraine sufferer, but now I'm really suffering because I can't take what I would normally take to make it go away

Anyone have this problem, what can I do to make it better?

  • Maybe try a little caffiene? That's what my doctor recommended with my last pregnancy when I got bad headaches.
  • Loading the player...
  • Yes to caffeine.  Water.  And sleep.

So sorry!  From one migraine sufferer to another... I feel for ya!

  • You can take Tylenol (acetaminophen) low dose.

  • Thanks @RMLandy and @NicknShan...I'll try that and see if it works for me UGH  :((
  • Hope you feel better!
  • I am in the same boat. I've had a horrible headache since LAST Sunday, & nothing has worked. Yesterday a cold compress helped a bit, & I've been drinking lots of water & OJ. Mine feels a bit better today, but it's still there.
I've been told to try going to a chiropractor and for a massage if they continue.
Hope you get some relief, soon!

  • My combination for migraine relief is Tylenol, caffeine, an ice pack on the back of my head and rest in a cool, dark room. Drinking lots of water helps too, but I have to sneak up on it or I'll throw it all up. I'm sorry you're not feeling well.

Fellow migraine sufferer here. I agree with what everyone else said....drink a coke for caffeine and take some Tylenol and take a nap if you can. With my first my ob prescribed fioricet for migraines so you might ask your Dr. about it...I'm just not sure if it can be taken during first tri.

    Edit because autocorrect sucks

    Good to know! Thanks!!!
  • Mcdonalds coke. It always helps my headaches
  • As others have said, WATER!!  With my last pregnancy, I noticed that if I didn't drink enough water throughout the day, I would have the worst headache ever!!

Yep, same here! With both of my sons, I would ALWAYS get a headache if I was not chugging water constantly throughout the day. I think this was mostly 1st trimester and it got a little better later. I would drink as much water as you can!

  • Tylenol and caffeine.  The max dose is 4000 mg of Tylenol (acetaminophen) daily, but most people err on the side of caution and say 3000 mg is the max.  Avoid Excedrine Migraine, which contains these two ingredients as well as aspirin... aspirin is a no-no in pregnancy.  Trust me, I'm a pharmacist
    ;)
  • Agree with the Tylenol, caffeine and compress on back of neck- if you're not sensitive to the smell peppermint essential oils does wonders for me. I just put a little bit on my temples and across my forehead =)

  • You poor thing. The only thing that helps me with the headaches is drinking HEAPS of water everyday. I drink 3 litres a day and find that helps to keep them at bay
  • This would be an appropriate discussion for the daily symptoms thread. Just be sure to mention that you have a question at the top of your post so it doesn't get missed.
