June 2016 Moms

So anxious

My DH and I have only been married 1 month (been together almost 6 years) . The wedding was during my fertility window, so we decided to go ahead and give it a go right away.
4 days after the wedding we were in a bad car accident (we are mostly ok now) All of my injuries were to my stomach and around my reproductive organs. I had deep purple bruising and lumps over my ovaries and uterus, as well as a swollen pancreas, bruised ribs, whip lash and a whole world of other bumps and bruises. At the hospital they needed to do an xray of my pelvis to make sure nothing was broken. They did a urine test to see if I was PG, but it was negative, as it had only been 4 days.

Then I didn't start. I took a test and it was positive! Which is amazingly exciting, and also terrifying at the same time.

I am so afraid because I got the xray. I am so afraid that baby got shook up, or is ectopic, or that something is going to go wrong and I am going to MC because of the accident. My first OB appointment isn't until November 3rd, and I am just making myself crazy with worry. Every cramp, every twinge of anything and I about loose my mind.

Just needed to get that out. Tying to keep cool and calm and not let my DH know how scared I am.

Re: So anxious

  • I am so sorry to hear about your accident and understand why that would make this even worse. Baby was just a couple cells at that time and should've stayed pretty safe in there.

Sending prayers. Will you get any better confirmation of your pregnancy at your appointment?

  • I'm really sorry to hear everything you're going through. IMO, I think you should see about getting in earlier for peace of mind. Have you mentioned this to your OB? With injuries to your reproductive area, I think it's definitely worth pushing for more attention. Good luck to you!

  • I would definitely call and see about getting in earlier. Have you explained what happened to your ob yet? Baby was only cells at that point so that should be ok....but for peace of mind I would call again. However, your appointment is coming soon, so if you can't get in before then it won't be long now. Will be praying for peace and relief of anxiety for you!
  • I agree with PP...probably everything is fine since the baby was so little, but with damage to your reproductive organs I would think that it would be a special case. Also, everyone worries at this point in pregnancy, but if you have out-of-hand anxiety then that is a concern as well. Your doctor is there to help you and I'm sure he or she would want to do what they could to give you peace of mind. It wouldn't hurt to put in a call and see if they can see you any earlier. T&P for you and baby!

  • I don't see why your OB wouldn't see you sooner with the damage you had in the accident, and especially after getting an X-ray. I've found that it can help to be seen earlier if you express your concerns. I was able to get into an earlier appt with my RE just because I told her I was so impatient and wanted to get pregnant NOW.

    I'd be anxious too.
  • I am going to a new place and that was the earliest appointment they had for a new patient. My old office was super rude when I called them, and they don't have widwives, so once I get established at this new office it will be better. Just going to take a little longer.

I think I will feel better once I see baby, and see that (s)he is where they are supposed to be and doing what they should be doing.

Thank you ladies for logically talking me down. You are all right. Baby was hardly bigger than a pin head during the accident, and worrying isn't going to help anything.

  • I would call back and see if hey can put you on a list of people cancel. Maybe you can get in sooner. Hope everything is ok!

  • I fell very very early (before I had any clue I was preg) like you and got an X-ray on my knee and back. I was told by 2 diff drs that it would be perfectly fine after I discovered I was pregnant. They both said the chances of that causing any type of harm to the baby, especially that early, were Very slim. Try not to worry. I would call your dr and see about getting in sooner simply because you are so worried. You could use some peace of mind :)

  • So sorry, sugar. I can imagine how anxious you must be. Prayers for you and your tiny baby!
  • Wow, I am sorry you have to go through this. I know I heard read before that the baby is so well cushioned it there that it can sustain you having a fall and the likes. I would definitely just explain the case to your OB that you would like to have peace of mind. You are not being unreasonable asking for an early consult considering the circumstances. Good luck to you.

  • You have some awesome advice here, but I'll offer my prayers and thoughts for you and your little one anyway. ☺️
  • Oh girl try not to worry. As others said, that was just a clump of cells that hadn't even implanted yet... You weren't even producing hcg. You're totally fine! I understand the worry though.
I got freaked out because I used some really strong basil essential oil on my back during the tww. I wasn't able to turn a test when I put it on but a few days later I think was when I did. Then I read that basil oil can cause deformities or something!! :((
  • 4 days after my bfp I was on vacation and fell at the pool. somehow I landed on my ribs which are still sore and my doctor said the baby was so small and packed in there nothing was wrong with it (and he's right I already saw a hb)
  • I cleaned up mouse poop yesterday and didn't even think about it being bad til later! I googled it (bad I know) and it said something about a virus that can cause birth defects!!!! Now I'm freaking out
  • Update:

Had an ultrasound! Baby is where it should be, doing what it should be doing. Measuring 7w1d. Hcg 41,851, heart rate 154.

Looks like all that worry was for nothing after all!! :-)
  • Glad everything is going well! Your pelvis is one of the strongest bones in the body. Baby is well protected early on. Congrats and happy and healthy 9.
