3rd Trimester

NST and Movement

Hi all, so I'm 32.3 weeks pregnant and thus far into my pregnancy the baby doesn't move much. I've felt some larger kicks here or there but he's never woken me up at night or taken my breath away from a kick and he will go lots of time without much movement. I've mentioned it to my doctor several times, and I've had ultrasounds done to check on his movements. Both times the ultrasound tech basically said, 'he's moving, he's just a delicate mover.' Has anyone else had a pregnancy experience like this? I'm nervous about my NST tomorrow and I fear I may got a non-reactive answer

Re: NST and Movement

  • I have a friend due the same time I am and she's the same way, her LO moves a lot but it's barely detectable. For your NST, they detect the heartbeat/contractions/movements, it's a lot at once (I have my weekly one in about an hour). Try drinking some orange juice or something with sugar before hand to get him active. Hope all goes well!

  • Thank you. I appreciate the feedback. I did get a non reactive result. I had a ultrasound afterwards, it lasted about 5 minutes. The ultrasound tech then said everything's normal, you can go home. For some reason, it's left me with this unshakable anxious feeling even though the baby's obviously alive and well. Has anyone else gotten a non reactive NST and then what happened?
  • I never had NST with DD but she was a very very light mover. Ultrasounds always came back fine, but I could have counted on one hand how often I felt her kick. Her baby brother...umm...totally different baby. He kicks me till I cry.

You should really speak to your doctor about the anxiety level this is causing you. I'm sure everything is fine, and your little one is just a light mover. But bring up your concerns to your doctor. Explain that they may know everything is fine, but you could use some extra reassurance.
