Induction- family at hospital

I am set to arrive at the hospital at 8 pm to ripen my cervix. My mom says she wants to come, but there won't be a place for her to sleep or anything and chances are the baby won't be born. As it is my SO will have to sleep on a cot type thing or a reclining chair depending on the room we get.

I suggested she show up around 8 am the next morning.

What are your thoughts on this?

  • It's your birth and I think overcrowding in the room could be a little much. Especially if there is no need to think you would give birth quickly. If it's extremely important for you to have her there, then by all means let her do what she feels comfortable with. Or you can tell her if there seems to be quick progress you will call her to tell her to come to the hospital. Whatever you do know that it's your choice! Hope you have a wonderful experience! Good luck to you

  • There's a very good chance your hospital won't allow her to stay past visiting hours (8 or 9 pm). My hospitals policy specifically says one overnight guest. Plus, not much will probably happen over night and you will all need your rest for the next day.

  • I am getting induced tonight, only hubby is staying overnight. The rest of my support folks are coming in the morning. I would tell your mom to hold off till the morning, get some rest and she can relieve hubby for a bit then

This is what I was going to say. I was induced and could only have one person stay overnight and visiting hours were over at 8:30. My mom stayed since my husband had to work and they were just doing the Foley bulb that night and I knew she wouldn't be born until later the next day. The next day, my family came and visited in and out of the room, but I could still only have two visitors in the room with me at a time.
