Menstural like cramping?

Ive been having menstrual like cramping all week now. Im 34 weeks and its just getting a little uncomfortable. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced it or if someone else currently is. Really just curious on what it is, havent been to the doctor yet to ask and google doesnt help at all.

Re: Menstural like cramping?

  • Do you have any spotting or bleeding?  I'd call you doctor either way. Better safe than sorry!

  • I have that too and my doc said its Braxton hicks. But call your doc just in case.
  • No spotting or bleeding. But ill try to get ahold of my doctor today.
  • Call your doctor. I had this at 31 weeks and it was braxton hicks. I felt silly but reassured that everything was ok. This week (33 weeks) I had the same pains but this time it was a UTI and I was severely dehydrated. Ended up with a hospital stay, antibiotics and IV fluids.
It's always worth calling your doctor if you are concerned.
  • Also been having cramping and intense back pain, called the doc when it didn't go away after the usuals: drinking water, laying down, hot shower, Tylenol. Told me it was normal and I felt dumb, but what's normal for me doesn't necessarily mean it's normal for you. Call the doc, that's what you're paying them for, even if you do feel dumb it's better than not calling and having a potentially disastrous situation
  • I have that and it puts me in the fetal position most of the time. My doctor said the baby is putting pressure down there. I get it even worse after I pee. Another person said that it was contractions for her.
  • I've had mild period like cramping and was told it can be caused by your cervix softening
  • I have these as to what is actually causing them who knows . Doctor said pelvic shifting , babies position , or overduing and or ligament pains .

I was however given an internal to make sure

  • I was having this and sharp pains. I called the doc and was told it was probably just BH and to drink plenty of water. Come to find out, it was a kidney stone!!!! I've had them before but just was carrying on like they were normal pregnancy symptoms... Annoying but really nothing I could've done anyways if I would've known. But I agree w PP, always call your doc.
  • Pretty sure it's called Braxton Hicks :)
  • With my work schedule I havent been able to call the doctor. Also I wasnt too wprried about it because at the beginning of my pregnancy I had these cramps and it turnes out to just be my unterus growing. Anyway I went to Labor and Delivery to get checked out and they said it could be that my cervix is softening and the baby dropping further.
  • I am having cramps too along with back pain but only when I have a contraction. I was stored this is normal and generally comes with contractions and cervix softening. Midwife clarified that Braxton Hicks are normally not painful so what I am having are real contractions but you cn have that for weeks before actually going into labor.
  • Gee thanks for the positive support. As I said I wasnt super concerned because I had these pains at the beginning of my pregnancy and was told it was just my uterus growing. Plus I had no loss of fluids. I have had bh contractions and these pains were different. The baby also had normal movements. And for google, google kept suggesting it was bh or that I needed to go to the er immediately. I didnt feel like anything was wrong I was jusy more curious on what the aches and pains were. Ive gone to the doctor for more serious pains than these, Thank you to the people that were actually helpful and not criticizing. This is my first pregnancy and has been a great adventure.

A day or two of waiting it out and asking for advice is different than waiting a week. It just surprises me how long people are willing to wait it out before investigating the normalcy of a symptom. As a first timer, I'm totally paranoid of every twinge, ache, or pain. But I educate myself ASAP and rely on a healthy combo of Google, the ladies here, AND my doctor.
This, 110% this. And to add, my doctor is usually the first to know of something that just doesn't feel quite right. The advice here is great, but none of the ladies that usually give great advice want to point anyone, including drive-bys, in the wrong direction, and no one on here claims to be a doctor. Always, always check with a professional first. And please do it in a timely manner.
  • I hope you're feeling better! Glad you called, and it wasn't severe. I had the same thing happen, still do it and off, but my Dr said bh and just make sure to time how far apart/long and if it gets more severe come in. It's not nice to be mean to people. Hope you all the best with your new bundle!! God bless.
  • I've had the same type of cramps on and off (not continuous though) for about 6 weeks. Told my OB in early October, she did NOT say it was BH, but she did say it was fine and to be expected at this point in pregnancy. So i just suck it up and leave it at that. Hope that' you get an answer from your dr soon.
