Creative ways to tell family and friends

Hey hey!

I know there's pinterest and Etsy. So I'm looking for something outside of that that gets a little more clever. I got coffee mugs for my in-laws. I figured if I'm wondering other mommas are wondering too. If you had any fun creative way of telling someone, please let us know! The best I could do was I sent my best friend who lives in another state a flower arrangement and the card read "To Aunt Marian Love, your niece or nephew coming 2016"

Re: Creative ways to tell family and friends

  • I'm sending the announcement out in Christmas card form. It's going to be a photo of a baby xmas stocking. For closer relatives I'm getting them personalized bottles of wine.

  • The wine bottle idea is cool too. What would they say?
  • We won't be telling til Thanksgiving. For ILs, we got a baby bottle we will wrap up and say, "We got you something for the house. We didn't know if you had one." The youngest grandkid on that side is 3.5 years now.

We are also doing a Christmas card announcement for those we normally send one to but will not be told in person or on the phone.

Last time, I just started wearing a shirt everywhere that said, "Does this baby make me look fat?" Don't judge. I was young and thought it was clever. ;-) :-)
  • I had a client who at thanksgiving dinner out a Cornish hen inside the turkey so when they took the stuffing out I "baby turkey" came out too! Hahaha
  • I'm thinking of casually wearing an "eating for 2" shirt on thanksgiving. We are also getting family pictures taken on Saturday. We are all wearing flannel shirts so we are looking for a flannel onesie we can hold in one of the pics and use that as an announcement later too.

My thought exactly but with Halloween and the skeleton shirt that shows the baby skeleton in the belly.

Also, for those we will see in person I like the idea of asking for a group picture, setting the camera on video and pretending to take a picture saying "we're having a baby" instead of "cheese". So you get everyone's reaction on video.

I love th idea of the flowers!! @ScoutPout
Ohhhhhhh!! I love that reaction idea!!! Lol!!!!i may have to steal that!

  • I'm planning to give my parents a gift and say it is for their anniversary.  I have a t-shirt for my dad that says "Great dads get promoted to grandpas", and I have to find something for my mom still.  I plan to secretly record them opening their "anniversary" gift.  For my sister, I bought a bracelet that says "Aunt".  I haven't decided what to do for my in-laws yet.  Hubby wants to just tell them since it will be the third grandchild for them.  I'm fine with that.  I want to go all out for my family since it will be the first.
  • We told my parents and sister in person. We just put a Big Sister t shirt on DD and waited for them to notice. My Sis noticed right away but waited to say anything until my parents noticed on their own. We finally had to say "Grandma look and DDs new shirt" it was an instant "Aww" and then she actually read it and was like "Wait! What?!? Really?!" My dad just laughed and said "Good! She needs a sibling". He's been bugging us about number 2 since our DD was still a baby.

With the rest of the family we are thinking of telling them with pumpkins. We will have 4 pumpkins one for Mommy, Daddy, DD and the mommy pumpkin will have a heart carved out and a little pumpkin inside that says Baby #2. We will just send a photo of this since we won't be able to tell them in person since they all live far away.

I love the pumpkin idea!!! I would totally do it but we will be out of the country the rest of the month so we're not doing anything Halloween. No pumpkins, no decorations, no candy haha.

@jerseybroadwaybaby by all means take! I stole it from YouTube anyway. Can't take credit for it hahaha.

We went Facebook live after the first Dr. Appointment. Told parents and siblings beforehand, but this was our announcement. It was captioned, "Something's Brewing..."

  • Our announcement to our parents was with picture frames.  Because we haven't had an appt. yet, I typed up "See you in June Nana and Papa!" for his parents as this is their first grandchild, and for mine I did "The spoiling begins in June!"  I loved seeing the look on their faces as they read the pictures and it's a special little keepsake for them as opposed to telling them outright.  We'll probably just tell everyone else but our social media announcement will definitely revolve around our pups and adding 2 tiny feet to our pack of 12 paws or something like that.

  • We told my Mom on Friday with a month-by-month baby frame, and a note saying "Baby P, arriving June 2016" ...it took her a little to get it, but she was so excited. We'll do the same for my Dad today...he wasn't home Friday. For my in-laws we are probably going to wait until DH's birthday in a few weeks. I will bake a cake that says "Happy Birthday Daddy" & see if they can piece it together.

I think I might order this shirt to tell extended family and other friends around Christmas. We already have 2 events (one family, one friends) for December 19th...so it could be fun to show up to both wearing it & see how long it takes for everyone to put it together.

We will probably do a FB announcement so friends who live further away can see, but I haven't figured that one out yet. We've got time.

  • The Starbucks cups are so cute!!
  • That Christmas short with the bow on it is adorable!!
  • We're going to try and get our families both to our house next weekend for a football game. Before the game DH is going to stream a video to the TV and it will be a short clip somehow incorporating pictures of us from dating, our wedding, and now and the saying "first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in a baby carriage." We haven't figured out all of the details but are hoping it works out well!!!
  • I'm having tshirt made for my girls.. depending on the sex they will say oh boy or not again.. let's see who will be able.to figure it out
  • My wife got her parents her favorite baby books that they read to her. Watching them try to figure out why they were opening up a gift of a baby book was fun. It took them a minute and my wife had to explain they can read her favorite books to their grandchild. Then it clicked and it was all tears.
My parents already knew I might be pregnant so it was not much of a surprise for them they got books to but I just asked if they we
  • We told my in laws in the middle of getting family pictures my daughter had a sign saying she's getting promoted to big sis so we had their reactions on camera
  • With our son, we had our first appointment/us on Halloween ... so we trick or treated over to each of our parent's houses with some sort of photo gift with a copy of the ultrasound in it. We'd previously told people we were waiting a few more years, so they were all quite surprised.

This time around, we are going to use the holidays as an excuse to get large groups of friends/family together -- and pose them in a picture. Then we're going to replace saying, "say cheese" with "say ... Jen's pregnant!" .. and then capture everyone's reaction. I can't wait!

Love the pumpkin announcement! That's how I told DH we were pregnant this time around ;)

  • With my daughter we got a cake for a family bbq and had the bakery write "we're pregnant!" On top. My big bro got it right away, but my mom was so confused lol. We emailed our inlaws a picture of the u/s and had them check their emails while we were on the phone.

With our first son we ordered personalized m&ms that said "baby#2" "Due in April" and a tiny pic of the u/s. We made them in yellow and orange and gave them to both sides of the family (the inlaws were in town)around Halloween and said they were some special Halloween candy :)

With our second son we did the Halloween skeleton shirt with baby inside and we were a family of skeletons. We went trick or treating to my parents house. My sister noticed right away but my mom and dad took a while lol. We sent the in laws a toy from dd and a paci from ds with a note that said "please keep our stuff safe there's a baby on the way!"

We want to announce this baby around Xmas. I might wear a shirt and bake a pink or blue cake. So we will announce we're pregnant and then surprise them that we already know the gender with the cake afterwards. Or we might do a gift for the grandparents to open and say it's. Gift from baby #4. For the in laws I was thinking of sendin a bouquet that says congrats and they would wonder why and then we would call them?
This baby will be grandchild #7 for both sides! Which I think it's pretty cool :)
Haven't thought up a way to announce to Facebook yet, but that's always fun for us too. Probably some sort of pic with the big kids.

I love announcing it so much fun!!! It's also fun to finally be able to be excited with everyone else instead of holding it in lol.

  • I put this on the TTC board a few months ago.  For our DS, we told our extended family at a family Christmas Party.  We always have Santa come and bring presents for the kids.  We just leave the pile of presents in the garage and Santa puts them in his bag before he comes into the party.  We left one that said  "Baby (our last name)".  We had told Santa beforehand that we were surprising the family with the baby announcement.  So he waited until all the presents were handed out and then pulled out our present.  He made a big production of counting all the kids and looking puzzled at the extra present.  And then he said the name and I came and sat on his lap.  All of our family were crying!  It was one of my most favorite moments of my pregnancy!!  Hopefully, with the next one, we will be able to come up with something just as special.

  • I am waiting until 15 weeks and after we know the sex. My photographer friend is going to do a few photos of us in the snow holding a pink or blue bear between us, with some pink or blue helium balloons trailing behind us. I might even be extra cheesy and wear a matching shirt lol.
