Man you are SO early. Why did you even have an ultrasound??? I don't know anyone that would even do one until at least 8 weeks... To avoid this very thing! Plus unless something crazy happened it's not medically necessary. I would totally not fret over this just yet.
I had 2 MC before. Since its 3rd preg, they do betas and do everything earlier. But i see so many on these feeds under 6 weeks with hearts beats:/ trying to not let this mess me up.

No please don't get worked up over it. Even with the miscarriages, I still wouldn't get an ultrasound before 8 weeks. Most places wait till 12. Please just be patient, things could go either way but you won't know which way yours will go until it's all said and done. I know it's crap but being patient is the only way to really ascertain viability...
I am no expert but I wanted to send you some love and wish you luck. I hope that it was just too soon and that it will work out at the next appointment.
We didn't see anything at my first ultrasound either, and it was unsettling. Everything is just fine now, betas increased properly and we've since seen the baby. Fingers crossed your betas look good and the tech can find a sac next ultrasound. Thinking of you.
Were your betas above 2000-3000? I read somewhere that it typically takes that level to show anything. I had a an early U/S at 4w5d and saw the sac, but my betas were off the charts at 8,000 (doc suspects maybe twins). Hopefully, your betas just needed more time and the next Doc will call with good news!
My dr said they don't usually see anything till hcg reaches 1000. I've also had 2 losses. My second loss I had my first ultra sound at 5 weeks 6 days and measured 6 days behind. Prayers that you are just earlier than you thought!
I can't help give you an outcome but I can tell you I'm in the same boat. I'm around 5 weeks and had to have an ultrasound for cysts I get. I told them I just got a positive pregnancy test so they wouldn't freak over an extra cyst and a thick endometrium. Anyways, they freaked worse, sent me to the ER for more testing because they can't see a sac or anything so now I'm a possible ectopic until they can find the baby. I think it's just way too early but until they can find the baby I'm being monitored as possible ectopic
@sandiego715 I can understand how distressing that is. I'm sorry. Please ignore pp who say what is "normal" for us timing, they are speaking from their experience which is most likely limited to normal (low-risk/natural) conception and pregnancy. Since you are high risk due to prior miscarriages, you fall in with those of us who get extra special early attention. For us reproductively challenged folks, early monitoring is the norm and is very helpful for doctors and REs troubleshooting/ pinpointing early pregnancy issues as the occur. For instance, my first us is scheduled for 5+6 where we may or may not see a hb, but should (hopefully!) see a gestational sac.
I'm not sure why in your case they didn't see a sac but like other pp with similar experiences said--this by itself doesn't indicate you won't have a successful pregnancy! right now, it's all about your betas. My RE tried to manage our expectations and cautioned that we may not see anything due to factors like uterine placement and embryo implantation location which can make finding the Appleseed-sized bean very difficult.
If you had solid betas above 100 that are doubling every 48-72hrs, you may be fine and just have a late implantation or odd placement. Follow up betas and an us the following week were probably suggested to you by your dr and will pinpoint the issue (eg: beta slowly increasing, but no visual=ectopic, or beta increasing + sac located=late implantation). I wish you the best of luck and will keep my fingers crossed for you! Please keep us updated! GL!
Ps: born and raised in SD, but living east coast now, please enjoy the sun for me!
@alysemciver ugh! I hope you are right and they are being alarmist. When is your f/u? I'll keep my everything crossed they were being ridiculous ER types and your betas show their silliness. Wishing you a H&H 9 months!!
@HBamama2B my follow up is tomorrow! I hope everything works out for both of us! The beginning is always scary stuff, just have to make it to second tri. I'll keep you updated, let me know what they say about you too!
