How do you make your baby food? I want to do it and have tried it a couple of time but I'm not sure I'm doing it right. After you steam the hell out of it do you just mash/purée or do you strain too? Do you boil? Do you freeze? How long does it keep? I heard only for like a week but that seemed very short to me especially since it's frozen.
Re: making baby food
I made all of LO's food. It was so much cheaper for me.
It all depends on what I am making. I generally boil or steam whatever fruit or vegetable I am making, put it in a food processor, add BM/ formula if needed, then I put the puree in ice cube trays. After it is froze, I put all the food into ziplocs. Depending on the food it can stay in a deep freezer for 6 months.
I also found it was helpful to go to the grocery store and look at the pre packaged purees for idea on combined foods. Who knew my LO would be obsessed with sweet potatoes, ginger and mango? Also, avocado, pineapple and banana was a big hit.
Nope, I didn't strain anything. It seemed like just another step to me. And LO never had an issue. We started with avocados and sweet potatoes (which I peeled before steaming) so there wasn't really anything to strain.
