might get C-section baby isnt head down yet

Re: might get C-section baby isnt head down yet

  • How many weeks are you? Baby can turn at the last minute. My dr won't schedule a c-section for this unless I'm overdue.

  • I agree more info could be helpful. Ds2 wasn't head down until the day I went into labor!

  • Babies can totally turn on their own.  Check out the spinning babies website too...lots of great tips.  My sister was able to turn hers at the end using their techniques.   That said, C-section is really no big deal.   I've had two emergency C-sections and have a third one scheduled for this one.   You'll be fine either way!

This, same with my mom when she was pregnant with my sister. She flipped around on her own right before my mom went into labor.

  • I've heard that chiropractic adjustments can sometimes help baby be able to turn into the right position. No personal experience with it, but that might be something to look into and research if you're interested in that kind of thing. Good luck!
  • I'm in the same boat at 35 weeks. Dr has an ultrasound scheduled for next week and we'll schedule a tentative c-section if she's still breech. He's going to keep checking up until the csection to see if she has turned so I'm not being "forced" into a c-section if I dont end up needing it.

I've been doing all the spinning babies techniques and seeing a chiropractor and nothing yet, but I have hope

Either way we'll all be just fine! Good luck :)
  • I feel like more information could possibly be helpful... But instead of thinking about it as some big scary monster, think about the fact that you're doing what you have to do for your baby. Seems less scary then, right?
  • Stand on your head. Then baby will be head down.

But seriously... Don't worry if your OB isn't worried
  • I was informed today that it was almost 100% I was going to need a c section for my little one who is also breech. I have a few other things going on as well like low fluid and swelling that is unreal so mine is predicted to not only come via c section but also come earlier than we expected.
  • Mine didn't turn until 35.5 weeks.  I found out at 34 weeks he was breech.  I did spinning babies exercises and a chiropractor.

I also have a smallish baby and plenty of fluid.

  • I'm a FTM but it seems like my baby has a good sense of humor.

Up to 34 weeks, she was breech. I was doing all the spinning baby exercises which paid off because she ended up turning right before my visit to the Dr at 34 weeks.

Then, I felt a lot of movement a couple days before 36 weeks and then less movement. That's when I found out she had decided to turn again.

My Dr recommended for me to go to the hospital today to schedule a Cesarian for next week (for some reason she recommended delivering me at 38 weeks) as she did not think the baby would move back to position so far into the pregnancy.

Guess what: yesterday baby was kicking a storm and we found out at the hospital today that she had come back into position!

The bottom line is, babies will do whatever they feel like doing.. And you can always cancel the C-section if he/she flips back into place. I have to say that the positive thing out of all of this is that I am now mentally prepared for either outcome and that I will be more flexible with my birth plan.

In the meantime, if it makes you feel better, try out the spinning babies positions. It does not take much time in your day and will make you feel like you're doing something! I found it relaxed me a little knowing that I had at least given it a try :)
  • At 35 weeks baby was breech also, I have an appointment today (37 weeks) and I'm hoping she's turning her little butt around. If not, I'm still hopeful but I will be increasing the techniques I've read and walking.
  • I have done spinning babies and chiro little one is still breech so we scheduled our c-section on Tuesday. Dr said they will check every week and even morning of so if she does decide to flip we could still go natural. However I was told not to hold my breathe as she is measuring long and Dr feels it is slim. I fought the scheduling nurse and managed to schedule my section only 2 days before my due date to give her all the time she needs to change her mind. Good luck!
  • I have heard spinning babies is a great goto Web page but haven't checked it out myself.
They can turn at anytime between now and birth

At my 30 week US the tech pointed out not only was she breech but how the cord was placed up by the face and it looked as if it had been draped over her shoulders like a scarf and they are afraid of it wrapping around her neck if she did turn and if that would complicate labor, so that reduced my chance of a vaginal birth before I had made the decision for a c-section.
  • Ice at the top of your belly and warmth at the bottom of your belly can encourage baby to flip too. I also know a couple of moms that used a drop of peppermint oil at the top of their belly to encourage baby to flip.

Sit up and forward, no reclining. Small meals, lots of water, and empty the bladder often to give baby lots of room.

Best wishes for those of you still needing baby to flip!!! ♡
  • @tonyandangey if you aren't due until November, Baby still has plenty of time and room to flip.  I would try not to worry too much about it at this point.
  • So I went in for an ultrasound today to confirm my son is still breech and a possible version to try and flip him if it was safe. I'm 36 weeks 4 days. We got the ultrasound and found out that baby has the cord wrapped around his neck once and that's probably why he hasn't flipped. Ob decided it was best to not do the version as it could compress the cord and I could easily be sent in for an emerg section instead of him flipping. We decided to go for a scheduled c section to get him out the safest way possible. So we will be having a baby sometime during the first week of November!!!! :/

It's super scary to think about, and that's the worst part of a scheduled C Section - it allows you to freak out about it. But the feedback I've heard for mine is that recovery can be much better versus having an emergency C Section because your body won't go through the stress of laboring and then surgery. Take the time to prepare in other ways, it's going to be important that you have a set up at home that doesn't involve constant stairs and bending over all the time. You'll want super comfy, high granny panties and nightgowns instead of waisted items. Focus on prepping that and the anxiety could slip away, mine did.
  • My boss's baby (born in June) was breech up until the day before his scheduled c-section. He flipped the day before, discovered when she had her pre-op. She ended up being induced 4 days later, due to questionable NSTs (but he ended up being totally healthy).

I was a breech baby who refused to be turned, and the attempted version actually caused my mom's labor to start (three weeks early), so she went from the OB's office to the operating room.
