Fenugreek and periods

Hi Mommas. I'm a FTM who is back at working and pumping to keep my LO stocked with breast milk. I've been using Fenugreek for about a month and a half and in that time I've had my period twice. And last night I noticed some very light spotting though nothing this morning. Has anyone else experienced this? I know it can cause uterine contractions but I'm wondering if this is the norm.

I have a call into my OB this morning. I'm on the mini-pill but with these random periods, I'm not sure how effective it is. I know it takes a while for your body to regulate itself so I'm not sure if that's the case.

  • My period has been all over the place while breastfeeding, from twice in one month to 6 weeks between.

  • OMG mine too! I'm also on mini pill and I've been spotting then it stops I ditch the panty liner and bam full on period. It's gone on over a week and I'm getting really discouraged. My breasts have always hurt a lot during periods and I have been in so much pain nursing I'm practically in tears. I thought I wouldn't get a period while BFing for 6 months so that was disappointing. I am formula supplementing because I'm going back to work and there is just no way I can pump as much as I would need to (I've got the kind of baby that wants to eat constantly) If the bleeding doesn't stop soon I'm just going to wean entirely so it's been pretty upsetting but I can't live with the constant spotting or the pain.
  • I have heard that taking fenugreek can make your period return.
  • It does cause uterine contractions. I stopped with the fenugreek entirely and I feel 100% better. Guess it wasn't for me.
