What would you do if you had a hard fall?

Last night I fell. I slipped on my stairs and fell on my knee, and jammed my hip hard. I could barely walk last night. Today I can limp around but having terrible pain in my bum (low spine) up the right of my back and up through my arm pit.

Obviously, there is nothing I can really do. I am trying to take it easy and using a hot pad on my back.

Would you call you OB or just wait it out? My next appointment is 10/26, and I don't get an u/s until 12 weeks at the earliest.

Thoughts?

Re: What would you do if you had a hard fall?

  • I'd wait - if you're not cramping or anything chances are LO is fine - it's very roomy and cushy in there early on.

If your hip and knee and your back are causing you a lot of grief, it might be worth getting those checked out though.... They're going to be put under a lot of strain the next 8 months...

Sorry about the fall - hope you're feeling better soon

  • So sorry about the fall. That sucks. :( I agree with PP. LO has a lot of protection in there.

  • I agree with PP...it's always scary...but it's probably nothing to worry about, pregnancy-wise anyway. If you're still having a lot of pain you might go to a regular dr (and mention that you're pregnant, obviously). Sorry that happened, that sucks to have all that on top of pregnancy symptoms...

  • Sorry, that sucks. I agree with PPs. Seems like you protected your stomach, so unless you feel like you need some strong meds, I don't think you need to call the OB. Feel better!

  • Urgh, that's not fun at all! I hope your hip & spine! I hope you they start to feel better! I agree with PP, the baby is probably okay! Lots of cushion this early!
  • My 70 lb dog knocked me down the mud room stairs onto the concrete floor when I was about 6 months pregnant with my last. I landed directly on my stomach. It caused cramping and bruising and soreness for weeks. Baby and I were both fine!!!

I'm sure you're ok. If you're really concerned don't hesitate to call your ob. They want us to!

  • Nothing? Baby is still in your pelvis at this point in your pregnancy. That's one of the most protected areas in your body.

You can use heat and ice for the pain alternately. You can also take a couple of Tylenol. Most likely you are a bit bruised up from the fall but baby is OK.
  • Thanks. I wasn't sure if I was crazy to be doing nothing.

I took some Tylenol and am enjoying the heat pad tonight. Xoxo to you all.

  • I fell hard during both of my previous pregnancies! One was early and the other was when I had a big ol' bump. I'm sure if your not feeling any cramping or bleeding your fine! Just listen to your body! Hope you feel better!!

  • I hope you're feeling less pain today. Take it easy tomorrow, perfect reason to relax on the couch and binge watch Netflix! You can do sparkling cider (the non alcoholic one) in a wine glass to feel pampered.
