Hi all

I'm 38+4 weeks pregnant and I've been having some unusual pains lately, I'm a FTM so I don't really know what to expect but I'll try to explain.
I'm carrying a very large baby - at 35+5 weeks, I had a growth scan which revealed he was estimated to weight 7lb 8oz already! His AC measurement was off the charts, measuring at 42 weeks. The doctor was concerned about gestional diabetes, so I had a test which came back negative. A week after the growth scan, I saw my consultant who had a feel and said he does feel very big and doesn't have a lot of room, and she also said baby's head was 3/5 engaged (up from 2/5 engaged from about 33 weeks).
Pretty much straight after my appointment, I started getting some strange pains on the bottom of uterus (just below my belly button). These weren't too bad at first, but in the night they got so bad that I phoned the hospital who advised me to go in to checked. I don't really know what a contraction feels like but it would be a wave of pain that starts off light, builds up to a really intense/tight pain then eases off. This will happen a few times in a minute, then ease off for 5-10 minutes, then come back.
Pretty much when I got to the hospital the pains stopped, but the midwife checked my cervix and said I weren't dilated (she could fit a finger tip up there), and my cervix was long & high. She felt babys head and said he was 4/5's engaged (more since earlier in the day) She said it could have been contractions but could also be nothing, so I went home. Later that evening I had some spots of blood on my tissue after using the toilet, and the next morning I had brown mucus too. This didn't seem thick enough to be my *plug* but I think it may have been the start of something. Over the course of the next few days (up til now) I'd been having little bits of yellowy/green mucus, not frequently though.
Last night the pains came back and were just as bad, if not worse. I did notice that about 70% of the time, the baby is moving a lot as I've got the pain - I did think the pain could be caused by the movement but I also get the pain when he's not moving, perhaps he's responding to a contraction? They've eased off slightly but keep reoccuring throughout the day. Do these sound like contractions? Could labour be near?
I've also been having sharp shooting pains down below, which people have said could be baby descending into my pelvis more - but surely note seeing as he was already nearly fully engaged?
Thanks!
