Umbilical Granuloma

Hi all. DS is 5 weeks old and had silver nitrate applied yesterday to take care of his umbilical Granuloma. If anyone else's baby had this procedure done, please share how you cared for the belly button afterwards. Thank you!

Re: Umbilical Granuloma

  • DD had one when she was around a week old. Pediatrician applied silver nitrate and told us to leave it alone so we did. We still gave her sponge baths, leaving that area alone, and made sure her diaper wasn't covering it. It healed completely after one treatment (she's 4 weeks now). Good luck!

  • My DD's umbilical granuloma jresolved itself around 11 weeks after two silver nitrate applications. We just kept the area clean and dry. Mostly sponge baths, kept the diaper away from it and also used a little gauze when we put her in the car seat as the straps rubbed against her belly button through her clothes.
