Given birth and group b strep?

Just curious if anyone has had their child and were group b strep?

Re: Given birth and group b strep?

  • I was GBS+ two years ago and DS was fine. Is that what you're asking? I think a lot of moms on here can say the same!

    Are you worried about it?

  • Yeah a little
I have heard some scary stories and also wondering if baby has to go to nicu or for special testing after arrival
  • I was gbs + for both of mine. With my first, there were no problems but we had to stay at the hospital a bit longer because of jaundice. With my daughter, she came so fast that they didn't have time to administer the minimum amount of antibiotic needed to protect baby, so they did keep us 48 hours and do a blood test. But she's totally fine, perfect actually!

As long as you follow your doc's instructions about when to get to the hospital, you will have done everything you can do. However, like a PP said, sometimes you can't get the antibiotics in time and they will monitor baby in the hospital. If you're super worried, talk to your doctor about it at your next appointment and most likely s/he will put your fears to rest. I did that with my first baby and he made me feel so much better about it.

  • Thanks alot !
  • I'm gbs positive and my ob is refusing to strip my membranes because of it, is that normal?

Yes. You should not have this done if you are gbs+. The risks to the baby are not worth it. You also shouldn't have cervadil.
  • My baby came before we tested but I went into labor naturally, got the antibiotics at the hospital and baby was fine!
