How long does is take your baby to finish a bottle? It's taking my girl 30-40 minutes to finish a 3-4 oz bottle, and I don't know if the flow is too slow, she's actually full, or if I just have a lazy eater.
Mine takes about 20-25 minutes to finish not including the half way mark burping we do. It's about equal to the time he takes to nurse so the flow seems on target for him. Maybe yours is just a slower eater. That seems like a normal time for a baby to eat when they are first getting started.
My baby takes at least 20 minutes to finish 3 oz., sometimes longer (with burps after every ounce). That's one of the reasons we liked the bottles/nipples ... that's about the same amount of time he'll spend on the breast when breastfeeding. I want him to work for it with the bottles so he doesn't abandon breastfeeding because it's easier to get milk from a bottle. But you could try a Stage 2 nipple for the Munchkin bottles to see if you like a little faster flow better. Does she eventually finish the bottle you give her, or does she give up halfway through?
The first bottle we tried (Avent Naturals, Stage 1), he downed 2 oz. in less than a minute, which was not satisfying for him and he didn't have to work for it at all. It basically poured into his mouth.
We have used the latch stage 1 since week one, the first bottle we tried. Mine is also 7 weeks and if he's really hungry, like first thing in the morning, he will do 4 oz of breast milk in 20 mins or less. But most of the other time he dicks around and does a little here and a little there. Sometimes breast, sometimes bottle. Like 2 oz, then a nap, then 30 mins later another ounce. But he eats close to 30 ounces a day like that. I feel like I just constantly feed him. I think he's a lazy eaterbbut he also just likes to hang out and eat on his own schedule. Like his dad;)
Let me add she's almost 7 weeks. And yeah, she just gives up halfway through.
Mine is almost 7 weeks too. Maybe try Stage 2 and see how you like the flow? If it's too fast, you could just go right back to Stage 1 at the next feeding. Target sells a Munchin Latch Newborn Pack online that's a really good deal and it includes two Size 2 nipples (along with 2 Stage 1 nipples, 2 4-oz bottles, 2 8-oz bottles, and 2 pump adapters (which work with most pumps, including the Medela InStyle)).
